About this deal

The Mac mini (2023)’s design is pretty much identical to the Mac mini from 2020, and that’s no bad thing. It remains small and unobtrusive, with a solid metal case and the large Apple logo on the top. If you love to travel, work from home, go to school, or simply need a convenient way to carry your laptop and other gadgets, the KROSER Premium Briefcase Case for Mac Mini could be the perfect fit. This laptop briefcase is made of water-repellent poly fabric, has roomy compartments for your laptop, files and notebooks, and can accommodate an iPad as well—perfect for all of your on-the-go needs! Logitech is a household name when it comes to PC peripherals. The brand makes solid, reliable products that provide a great user experience. Both, the Logitech MX Keys Mini and the MX Anywhere 3 are excellent accessories if you’re looking for a wireless keyboard and mouse combo. In fact, we would recommend getting them over Apple’s first-party keyboard and the Magic Mouse.

When we put our review unit to the test using the Geekbench 5.4 multi-core CPU benchmark, it earned a score of 15,038. That's good, and better than what the M1 Pro chip earned (12,477) when we put the 2021 MacBook Pro through its paces. In fact, it's almost as good as the 17,229 earned by the 12th Gen Core i9 Intel CPU in a recent Acer Predator Orion 7000 gaming PC we tested, which shows you that Apple's latest mid-grade Mac chip is catching up to Intel's top-tier CPUs in terms of performance. AppleCare+ for Mac provides expert technical support and additional hardware coverage from Apple, including up to two incidents of accidental damage protection every 12 months, each subject to a fee. When we first tested Apple's M2 chip in the MacBook Air M2 and the 13-inch MacBook Pro M2, I was impressed but not blown away. The M2 chip proved meaningfully faster than the M1 in our performance tests, but it was an evolution rather than the revolution I was hoping for after seeing the incredible performance of the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips in Apple's 2021 MacBook Pros. Those upgraded M1 chips are absolutely beastly, and they gave me newfound respect for Apple silicon. These aren't the latest and greatest games, but we use them to benchmark performance because they run on a wide variety of both Mac and Windows PCs. While these scores pale in comparison to the best gaming PCs, they're quite good for a desktop Mac and prove the Mac mini M2 is more than capable of playing the best Mac games, especially when fully upgraded. Mac mini M2 review: Verdict You have several options to configure the Mac mini M2. For the base M2 model, you can upgrade to 16GB or 24GB of Unified memory, and you can opt for 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB of storage space. You can also add 10 Gigabit Ethernet over the standard Gigabit Ethernet port.To evaluate its performance in Adobe's suite of apps, we put a copy of Pugetbench on our review unit and let 'er rip. This software is designed to test a PC's performance in the most popular Adobe apps, and the Mac mini M2 put up scores that are pretty beefy for its size. Our review unit earned a score of 964 in the Pugetbench Photoshop benchmark and 847 in the Premiere Pro benchmark, which is leagues better than the Mac mini M1 (which struggled to even run the tests, though that may have something to do with the fact that it was the first time we were running them on silicon from Apple instead of Intel or AMD). You can also get the Mac mini (2023) with the new M2 Pro chip, which launched alongside the PC, and features in the MacBook Pro 16-inch (2023) and MacBook Pro 14-inch (2023). This is an exciting development, as it’s the first time a professional-grade chip has been included in the Mac mini, turning it into a viable compact workstation for creatives, and anyone who wants extra power in a small PC, but finds the asking price of the Mac Studio to be too high. The exciting update is the M2 Pro processor. Unlike the previous generation, Apple is offering the new Mac mini with an M2 Pro processor, which is also available in the new MacBook Pro. It comes with more cores, allowing the M2 Pro to run much more demanding applications. Obviously this machine isn't built for gaming, but my hands-on testing suggests you can play a lot of the latest Mac-compatible games at 1080p or higher on the Mac mini M2, and you can get decent performance from one upgraded with a maxed-out M2 Pro chip and 16GB of memory.

The Competition] Don't fall for low quality, fake "hard shell" carry cases! The competition will call their carry cases "hard" or "durable" when really their products are only just molded, soft fabric zipper bags that are prone to tearing. Remember, if it has a zipper, it's not rugged! If you’re looking for a case for your Mac Mini, you’ve come to the right place. I’ve been scouring the Internet to find some of the best cases I could get my hands on, and I’ve rounded them up here for your convenience. Also, if there’s a task that’s using up a lot of memory on the graphical side of things, that could have repercussions for CPU performance.

Apple's tiniest Mac gets even better with an M2 upgrade

As for the MX Anywhere 3 wireless mouse, it’s a good all-purpose mouse that helps improve your productivity. You get 5 buttons that can be customized via Logitech’s software. It also has Logitech’s signature MagSpeed scroll wheel found on the flagship MX Master series. Today, Apple is carbon neutral for global corporate operations, and by 2030, plans to be 100 percent carbon neutral across the entire manufacturing supply chain and all product life cycles. This means that every Apple device sold, from component manufacturing, assembly, transport, customer use, charging, all the way to recycling and material recovery, will have net-zero climate impact. The entry-level Mac mini is no slouch in this department either, and it can support up to two external displays at up to the same resolutions (6K via Thunderbolt 4, 4K via HDMI). However, the entry-level Mac mini can't support an 8K or 240Hz display — only the M2 Pro model can handle that. Mac mini M2 review: Performance The fact that you can run older Mac apps on the Mac mini (M1, 2020) is commendable, and with the M1 chip allowing iOS apps to be installed as well, it means the Mac mini continues to be a very versatile little PC. Once again, the Mac mini has quietly won us over without having to hog the limelight. Apple Mac mini (2023) review: Price and availability

Results are compared to previous-generation 3.2GHz 6-core Intel Core i7-based Mac mini systems with Intel UHD Graphics 630, 64GB of RAM, and 2TB SSD. However, people in Australia will need to wait a little longer, with deliveries starting on February 3, 2023. Apple has not commented on the reason for this delay, but I assume it’s down to logistics. Apple has made big strides in improving the efficiency of the M2 Pro chip, and while that is arguably more important when it comes to the MacBook, as better efficiency can lead to longer battery life, it’s also welcome with the Mac mini. Due to its compact size, the Mac mini can keep working without producing too much heat, and that means it also doesn’t need to use its fans that often, leading to a pleasingly silent PC. In these days of ever-higher energy bills, the efficiencies brought in by the M2 and M2 Pro are certainly welcome, especially if you’re planning on using the Mac mini for long periods of time. Results are compared to previous-generation 3.8GHz 8-core Intel Core i7-based 27-inch iMac systems with AMD Radeon Pro 5500 XT with 8GB of GDDR6, 8GB of RAM, and 512GB SSD.The model I got in for review is the M2 Pro model, but I’m reasonably sure that the performance of the Mac mini (2023) with the M2 chip will be pretty close to the M2 models of the MacBook Air and 13-inch Pro. If that is indeed the case – and I’ll hopefully get hold of an M2 Mac mini at some point to confirm – then you’re looking at an impressively versatile mini PC that, for the price, easily outperforms the competition. If you were disappointed with the price rise of the MacBook Air (M2, 2022), then the Mac mini (2023) with M2 is almost half the price - though, of course, no screen, keyboard, or mouse is included in the price. Before we get to accessories for the Mac Mini M2 though, here are some other articles that may interest you –

Testing conducted by Apple in November and December 2022 using pre-production Mac mini systems with Apple M2 Pro, 12-core CPU, 19-core GPU, 32GB of RAM and 8TB SSD, pre-production Mac mini systems with Apple M2, 8-core CPU, 10‑core GPU, 24GB of RAM and 2TB SSD, production Mac mini systems with Apple M1, 8-core CPU, 8-core GPU, 16GB of RAM and 2TB SSD, and production 3.8GHz 8-core Intel Core i7–based iMac systems with AMD Radeon Pro 5500 XT with 8GB of GDDR6, 8GB of RAM and 512GB SSD, as well as production 3.2GHz 6-core Intel Core i7–based Mac mini systems with Intel Iris UHD Graphics 630, 64GB of RAM and 2TB SSD. Tested with Adobe Photoshop 24.0.0 using the following filters and functions: mesh from layer, difference clouds, lighting effects, tree and spherical panorama. Performance tests are conducted using specific computer systems and reflect the approximate performance of Mac mini and iMac. That doesn’t signify, however, that the M2 Pro Mac mini is better than the Mac Studio for creative tasks that require GPU processing. Turning to the GeekBench Compute tests, you can see that the Mac Studio is clearly a few steps ahead in both the OpenCL and Metal tests. We recommend getting the 1TB variant since it’s ample storage for most users. The read speeds can go all the way up to 1050MB/s thanks to the USB 3.2 Gen2 connectivity. You get a metal casing which makes the SSD durable too, which is a huge plus. Mac mini with M2 and M2 Pro will be available in Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, and New Zealand beginning Friday, February 3.
