About this deal

You’ll begin this recipe with basic pantry staples – which means you may already have all of the ingredients on hand! White sugar, brown sugar, and real butter (no substitutes!) make the magic happen as they bubble together in the pot.

During the cooking process, the protein molecules in butter react with the sugar to produce caramelization known as Maillard reaction. This results in flavorful compounds and complex subtleties that make the candy absolutely delectable! Larceny bourbon is produced by Heaven Hill and uses wheat as the secondary grain rather than rye. This gives it a smoother flavor than your average bourbon. Larceny is a small batch bourbon, made using no more than 100 barrels and bottled at a slightly higher 92 proof.

Old Elk Straight Bourbon

Such is the tale behind this new whiskey brand from Rochester-based LiDestri — and one which begs the question, “Does whiskey need correcting?” Flavored whiskey is always a controversial topic, but Cask & Crew at least is releasing the unflavored expression alongside the two flavored versions (which are based on the same initial product, and dropped down to 35% abv). We tried all three. Thoughts follow. If you're already a firm lover of whisky, then you'll know that there are many different types to choose from. We’ve focused our search on single malt scotch whiskies, which must be made exclusively from malted barley, at a single Scottish distillery, with a minimum of three years in oak casks. Simples! Roy and Penny Lewis have developed many a fine drink in their time and this is no exception. Based now in Helensburgh, just North of Glasgow, this particular drink was inspired by their time in the Lake District, where sugar cane was once mixed with whisky in the Eighteenth Century to create a similar drink. Toasted English walnuts are my favorite toffee topping, and they work well with the mild flavor of the bourbon whiskey in the candy.

Cube the butter before you get started. Scattering the butter cubes around the inside of the pot will help it evenly distribute as it cooks with the sugar. Cask and Crew is a small-batch whiskey produced in Catawba, North Carolina. This spirit is made from a blend of corn, rye, barley and other grains that are hand-selected for flavor and quality. The whiskey is then aged in American white oak barrels for at least two years before being bottled at 43% ABV.

The Evan Williams Bottled-In-Bond Bourbon is 100 proof and follows the exacting standards of a Bottled-In-Bond product; aged for at least four years, distilled in one season at one distillery and under U.S. government supervision. Evan Williams Bourbon is bright gold in color with aromas of caramel with hints of vanilla, oak and barley. Old Elk’s Straight Wheated Bourbon Whiskey is one of the top 10 smoothest whiskeys available. It is made using the Slow Cut process, which results in a fuller, deeper, and smoother spirit. Delish's expert testers have selflessly sipped their way through a selection of the best single malts to find the bottles worth buying. You’re welcome. What is the best whisky? This expression has won numerous awards with the most notable being a Gold Medal at the New York International Spirits Competition. Tasting notes reveal oak, toffee, vanilla ice cream, caramel, and floral notes on the nose, with cream, toffee, vanilla, toasted almonds, and clove on the palate. The finish is smooth and slightly warming with caramel and milk chocolate notes. The different types of grain used in the production of whiskey can have a significant impact on the final product. Corn, for instance, tends to produce a sweeter-tasting whiskey, while rye grain provides a more spicy flavor. So, when it comes to choosing a smooth and easy-to-drink whiskey, it all comes down to personal preference. Some people might prefer the sweet taste of bourbon, while others might prefer the spiciness of rye.

Our panel of WSET-certified experts and consumer testers tasted 45 different single malts, from super-smooth and easy-drinking to full-bodied and smoky.

What Makes a Whiskey ‘Smooth?’

Another factor that can affect a whiskey’s “smoothness” is its age. A younger whiskey is often more likely to be harsher and more astringent than an older whiskey. This is because the longer a whiskey ages, the more time it has to filter through char in the barrel and develop complex flavor notes. So, if you’re looking for a smooth and easy-drinking whiskey, you should look for one with a low ABV and/or an aged flavor profile.

Bottled at 90 proof, Russell’s Reserve Rye features notes of almond and allspice. Its crisp, lively taste works in a smooth, complex palate. The high-proof rye is made with a mashbill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley. It is aged for a minimum of six years in new American oak barrels before being bottled at its natural color. A lot of drinkers unfairly assume that all rye is spicy or hard to enjoy unless you’re a “true enthusiast”. Russell’s does a great job of demonstrating how flavorful and easy to enjoy rye whiskey can be. Despite it making up a tiny portion of their overall distilling This cookie is set by Rubicon Project to control synchronization of user identification and exchange of user data between various ad services. Flavour profiles span from the sweet and smooth (typically found in the lowlands), to the big peated Islay whiskies. In-between there’s the fruity, citrus-soaked Speysiders, while the Highlanders & Islands offer up more robust malts. So there really is a single malt for everyone!” Equal parts sugar and real butter account for the rich flavor and beautiful golden color in this classic candy. Distilled on copper pot stills and matured for a legal minimum of three years, single malt is renowned for its depth of character and breadth of flavour across brands, products and ages,” he explains.Drawing upon time-honored traditions echoed by generations past comes Cask and Crew’s latest libation: walnut toffee whiskey. Poured into each bottle is aged bourbon that has undergone rigorous barreling techniques before being combined with natural walnuts and luxurious homemade toffee syrup crafted right inside their Microdistillery located near the heart of Nashville Tennessee—a rare treat indeed! The resulting color presents an inviting amber hue while aromas dance across the senses exhibiting an indulgent nuttiness accented by spicy notes intertwining with hints of smokiness provided by careful aging measures that follow typical Sazerac standards. On the palate, you can expect smooth layers comprised of caramelized essences intertwined with subtle almond sweetness as flavors linger long after your final sip vanishes down your throat delivering a warm comforting end to each savory journey! How to Prepare Cask and Crew Walnut Toffee Whiskey Step by Step Some like to dilute their dram with a splash of water. This has the benefit of smoothing out any bitterness and can bring more of the sweetness to the surface. However, others prefer to drink whisky completely neat — there’s no right or wrong. This award-winning whiskey has notes of toasted nuts, vanilla bean and oak, with a palate filled with dried fruits, maple syrup and a rum sweetness. It leads to a finish marked by a woody, cinnamon spice, evergreen and caramel. And at 100 proof, it’s sure to satisfy even the most discerning whiskey drinker. Step 1– Gather your ingredients: You will need one 750ml bottle of Cask and Crew Walnut Toffee Whiskey, 1-2 ounces of simple syrup, 2 dashes of Angostura bitters, and one maraschino cherry for garnishment. It offers a well balanced palate with hints of walnuts and vanilla: When sipped slowly, you’ll begin to enjoy alluring notes of roasted walnuts alongside delicate touches of butterscotch, maple, caramel and vanilla – all mixed together in perfect harmony giving you a well balanced palate experience from start to finish!
