About this deal

In 1997, Joy Spence was made the master blender at J. Wray and Nephew– the first woman ever to occupy this position in the industry. [4] W&N is predominantly a mixing rum. I wouldn’t really look to sip a white rum at the best of times and I’m certainly not going to start with 63% firewater! You can add water to this rum if you wish to try this rum without a mixer. It’s often useful to do so just to explore the spirit. It’s certainly useful from the point of a reviewer as it enables me to identify some of the nuances and flavours.

Dry Edition is a dry sparkling wine, produced through a natural fermentation process. It is characterised by a fresh and pleasing perfume and a slightly fruity, balanced and enjoyable flavour. Perfect at the end of the meal, it best expresses its characteristics served iced and in slightly frosted glasses. Ideal for any occasion, it brings with it the flavor and aromas of Sardinia spread by the Mistral wind and recalls the carefree atmosphere of dinners in company. At 126 proof (63% alcohol by volume), it’s also damn strong. And that high proof makes it quite popular in frozen drinks, rum punches, and other mixers. Good for ghosts? J. Wray and Nephew Ltd. is a distiller, blender, and bottler of rum, originating and operating in Jamaica. True pioneer from the very start, Maison La Mauny combines know-how and creativity to develop new recipes that are always more attractive and bottles an elixir of conviviality, typical of Martinique. In the heart of the lush valley of Rivière Pilote in southern Martinique, Maison La Mauny has been making Agricole Rums elaborated with pure sugarcane juice for over 250 years. Established by Count de Mauny in 1749, the La Mauny Estate is part of Martinique’s historical heritage and renowned for the beauty of its terroir and its warm climate.

If you happen to be in an older home, though, you might as well just drink some of this stuff. After a few shots, you’ll be out so cold that even the loudest and most mischievous duppies won’t bother you. I’ve read that Jamaicans prefer the white overproof over dark rums because there’s a sense that it’s somehow purer. And therefore, better for their health. And that belief certainly translates into sales. As it’s estimated that Wray and Nephew accounts for 90% of all rum sold in Jamaica! Wray and Nephew White Overproof Rum Upon the initiative of its former Director Mr. Bourdillon, Maison La Mauny contributed to the recognition of the Martinican terroir and rum-making process so that it also acquired the AOC label, a true guarantee of quality and authenticity. In the past and nowadays, Maison La Mauny premium agricole rums have always been renowned for their quality and are awarded the most prestigious medals at International Rums Competitions.

Extra zing: Though not traditional, a sprinkle of spices like cinnamon or nutmeg could elevate the taste. The harvest of myrtle begins in November, a centuries-old, unique and precious tradition - like its homeland, Sardinia - which is renewed year after year to create Mirto Zedda Piras. The typical Sardinian liqueur is obtained exclusively from fresh Sardinian myrtle berries, harvested by skilled hands who know the impervious places of the island, where this spontaneous shrub grows, the fruit of which ripens inland and along the sunny and windy coasts of the island, exclusively on wild shrubs. Sainsbury's Superior Dark Rum (Gold medal winner in the Rum category at the 2010 International Wine and Spirit Awards [6]) Cynar is an artichoke based bittersweet liqueur known for its versatility and distinctive flavour; its taste is enriched by an infusion of 13 herbs and plants. The name of the drink derives from Cynar scolymus, the botanical name for artichoke, as artichoke leaves lend the distinctive flavour.
