About this deal

O romance é construído com bases sólidas e sem "atropelar" o que seria o mais normal na situação inusitada causada pela ideia audaciosa de Katherine de divulgar que era noiva de um Duque que ela nem ao menos conhecia. Katherine Danvers is a wallflower but to say her family from financial ruin she announces that she’s engaged to the reclusive Duke of Thornton – Alexander Masters. Amazing story of Alexander Masters, the Duke of Thornton, a terribly scared man, inside and out, and Miss Katherine Danvers, a lady trying to help her family.

Alexander Masters, The Duke of Thornton, withdrew from society 10 years ago, after a house fire killed his parents and left him badly scarred. This was a really enjoyable regency romance, and the antics of the ton and the flirty banter between characters was exactly what I needed at this moment in time. because she’s never had a positive marriage mart experience, and after all her family is Awfully Poor. I enjoyed the story overall and found the lead characters likeable enough to root for but felt it dragged a little in places and I’d have liked to have learnt a bit more about the other “sinful wallflowers” and to have had a little bit less angst. Since the duke is never around, she reasons, surely it will never get back to him that a woman he’s never met is faking an engagement to him (hoo boy).

I was slightly put off by the narration as A became R in all the wrong places there is no R in back and many more …. Then one day Alexander finds out about the rumors and want to know everything about Katherine so he requests that all the newspapers are brought to him daily, and every time he reads the papers he becomes more and more intrigued by Katherine and decides he needs to meet her.

I really loved her tones of the emotions that she conveyed in the narration and it was just a enjoyable experience listening to her bring this story to life.Despite the book having some of the more classic tropes I actually thought the story was so unique due to the wonderfully written characters. His absence from society followed a fire that left him with dramatic facial scars, chronic pain, difficulty walking, and impotence. I appreciated that the couple learned to adapt their sex life to Alexander’s disability; it’s rare to read about characters trying out different positions until they find what works. I also wish we got to read about H's sister meeting h's sisters as I feel like that would've been a joy to read about.

I can't speak from an Own Voices perspective on this but I really liked how this was used in Alexander's story from how vulnerable he had to be at times in front of Kitty, how good and gentle, yet respectful, she was of his conditions, and how Alexander's injuries and fear of his future is one of the reasons he eventually pushes her away.I enjoyed the unconventional way Alexander and Kitty met, the threads of Beauty and the Beast woven throughout, and the heartwarming cast of secondary characters. This turns out well in the end, and the romance and banter does pick up, but the lack of logic grated on me like nothing else.

because she claims she’s engaged to the reclusive, hasn’t-been-seen-in-town-for-seven-years (daaaammmnn) Duke Thornton, Alexander Masters.Finding multiple homes in the classics, historical fiction, fantasy, children’s literature, poetry, and cultural voices, Mary relishes in the power of storytelling to awaken our hearts. Packed with riveting drama and painful truths, this book powerfully illustrates the devastation of abuse—and the strength of the survivors.
