It was recorded between London, New York and Los Angeles over the last three years and features major contributions from Nicolas Jaar alongside a host of other collaborators. Magdalene is produced by FKA Twigs and, as with LP1, the recording process has been directed by her at every stage. Named a best album for 2022 including… Vulture, Entertainment Weekly, NPR Music, Pitchfork, i-D Magazine, NYLON, Complex, Rolling Stone, Esquire, GQ, Marie Claire, The Needle Drop, OkayPlayer, Rough Trade, FLOOD Magazine, The Quietus… and many, many more.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. FKA twigs mixtape CAPRISONGS finally available on vinyl, with a limited edition Glow in the Dark version. LP1 is FKA twigs defining artistic statement to date, building on the success of her two previous EPs and accompanying videos (‘EP1’ and ‘EP2’) which have elevated FKA twigs from a word-of-mouth secret to global obsession over the past two years.

Twigs has very limited range and I thought the preface was not a good opener with some very strange vocals. My only minor niggle is that a cd that is in a cardboard sleeve maybe could do with being sent out in sturdier packaging. As she sings on Mary Magdalene, the Magdalene album track that opened her highly-praised, sold-out live shows earlier in the year, “A woman’s time / A woman’s work / A woman’s time to embrace / She must put herself first”.I know it won't be everyone's cup of tea but thank god there are still pioneering artists like Twigs around to drag music out of the doldrums. To see her dancing you might think this CD is irrelevant but I alternate between watching her moves and listening. LP1 features none of these previously released songs; instead each track on LP1 is brand new, born out of FKA twigs’ artistic philosophy of spontaneous creation and collaboration in the studio. With that kind of timeframe, you can't help but have high expectations for the finished product, expectations "Magdalene" more than meets from the off. On first listen this full length album somehow initially feels to come up short against it, but with time and replays it somewhat outdoes what has gone before.
