About this deal

Bushcraft 101 A Field Guide to the Art of Wilderness Survival is written by American survival expert Dave Canterbury. Dave Canterbury is a self-reliance expert and survivalist in the outdoors, Dave Canterbury is also the co-owner of one of the top 12 survival schools in the United States. Bushcraft 101: A Field Guide to the Art of Wilderness Survival when combined with the authors YouTube channel gives you all the skills you need to not only survive but thrive in the wild. Like I said earlier this book is mainly about the basic and most important information for bushcraft in the wilderness.

If you’re not that dude but want to be, this will help, similar as it is to Winter in the Wilderness: A Field Guide to Primitive Survival Skills. Despite the author’s protest that you can weight the springs differently or use a variety of baits to target specific animals – I wasn’t sold.

The author not only explains the hows of the skills, tools, materials, and methods he presents, but the whys as well. Bushcraft 101 gets you ready for your next backcountry trip with advice on making the most of your time outdoors.

But if this is something that interests you, the section is as well written and diagramed as the rest. Canterbury is legit, that said this is not enough to survive if you got dropped in the middle of nowhere with nothing.I'm no expert survivalist, nor am I a novice, but the author's observations, insights, and bushcrafting methods in this book have taught me a great deal about things I hadn't realized and thought of before. Im Großen und Ganzen ist der Inhalt nicht schlecht, ist für mich als langjährigen Pfadfinder sehr oberflächlich. I haven't read many on the topic, so I'm not going to pretend like an authority in my review, but I have strapped on a pack and been on a few intermediate excursions.

This valuable guide offers only the most important survival skills to help you craft resources from your surroundings and truly experience the beauty and thrill of the wilderness. This brings in select pieces of gear with a focus on durability and adaptability, using materials such as leather, cast iron and canvas to make more permanent stays comfortable. Bushcraft 101: A Field Guide to the Art of Wilderness Survival is an introduction to key skills that all good outdoorsman should know. I also got a good laugh concerning the wild varmint recipes in the back of the book, even though they are probably serious. Initially, the information provided on frontiersman techniques are impractical to the point of vestigial for the average hiker. The way I think this book differs from others is the author's focus on life skills essential to thrive in the wilderness in tune with nature; not just emergency survival skills and gadgets to get you out of a jam. The ultimate resource for experiencing the backcountry written by survivalist expert Dave Canterbury, Bushcraft 101 gets you ready for your next backcountry trip with advice on making the most of your time outdoors. I believe that I now have a grasp of some of the basics and have increased my chances of living off of the natural resources of the wilderness. It is easily understandable and has plenty of drawings to clarify how things need to look, from fire pits to notches and knots. Yes, there are run-on sentences, but it's the points the author is making that's relevant to me, not his poetic prose and grammar.

Would probably need to read again and, as the author recommended, apply in real-life scenarios to truly get the most out of it. Ich habe dann aber sicherlich keine Tellerfalle aus Industriestahl dabei oder eine der anderen Gerätschaften, die beschrieben werden. My only critique would be that a lot of techniques described in the book came without pictures or diagrams. I’ve found this one particularly useful and user-friendly, with easy to follow instructions and helpful illustrations.Based on the 5Cs of Survivability, cutting tools, covering, combustion devices, containers, and cordages. Dave begins the book by laying out his unique approach to tools and equipment – the 5 Cs – the items that are difficult and/or time consuming to produce from natural resources on a trip.
