You receive the Audient iD4 and the first thing you’ll probably notice is how compact and light the interface is. Just to note that the specs suggest the best performance is to be had with a pure USB‑C connection, whereas I was going into a regular USB 2. I even tend to find that when I ask people what budget interfaces they are using, it’s very common for them to say the Audient iD4 or the Scarlett 2i2.On the top panel, in addition to two preamp gain controls, you get hardware monitoring via a simple balance control (Input/DAW) and output level is set via the large push button volume encoder. The Audient iD4 has been released for over a year now, but it’s still a leading budget interface on the market. The iD14 MkII with the connectivity tweaks now has a better balance of features with better monitoring software. Sound quality from the headphone out is also good - definitely good enough for monitoring while recording. Not only that but the onboard impedance of 6000 Ohms allows users to drive even the most powerful headphones to a preferred level.
