About this deal

I finished off the Bronze with Screaming Bell highlights to pop some edges and called the armor done. Overall it took me a while because I'm still learning but I don't think the process would take a long time at all for a more experienced person, especially if they had access to an airbrush from the jump. I understand the bad rap I saw Sycorax Bronze get on the internet but I think with the right application it fills that bronze hue's color niche very well and it's surprisingly easy to use after learning how to use it. If you have something you want with that color of bronze I would highly recommend using it, at the very least to try something new. I have a whole rest of my army to paint so I'm going to be doing it again on other models. I think I'm going to try changing my workflow next time to this which should save me time on the initial base coat: Now this might sound stupid, but I really would like to achieve an almost chrome-like mirrored / shiny gold effect on my Necrons, especially on the larger models like the vehicles. With that, you should be ready to hit the field with your high fantasy Spartan-adjacent stormzaddies. As for the animals, mounts, and other attendant critters, I usually go for naturalistic schemes drawn from wildlife. I can’t say I’ve really written these down since I didn’t standardize them, but browns and tans will get you where you need to go. I’m real excited to get to grips with the dragons soon and paint them up like Stellagama or Ground Agama lizards. Disclaimer** I will be eventually basing all of my Cursed City on 3D printed bases so the current bases are “temporary”… but if anyone asks, it’s snowing in the decaying city of Ulfenkarn.

In The Tempest, Prospero describes Sycorax as an ancient and foul witch native to Algiers, and banished to the island for practising sorcery "so strong / That [she] could control the Moon". [1] Prospero further relates that many years earlier, sailors had brought her to the island, while she was pregnant with her son, Caliban, and abandoned her there, as, due to her pregnancy, she was spared being put to death. She proceeded to enslave the spirits there, chief among them Ariel, whom she eventually imprisoned in a pine tree for disobedience. Sycorax birthed Caliban and taught him to worship the demonic god Setebos. She dies long before the arrival of Prospero and his daughter, Miranda. Caliban grows to hate Prospero's presence and power on the island, claiming that the land belongs to him since it was his mother's before Prospero appeared.Gilman, Ernest B. "'All eyes': Prospero's Inverted Masque." Renaissance Quarterly, July 1980, 33.2. pp. 214–230. Add in a little Fenrisian Grey to the previous mixture, something like 50/50, for the very sharpest parts of the leather Add in more Dark Reaper and layer up, concentrating on the outer edges and raised areas. This is subtle but will build up. Macragge Blue: Macragge Blue is a cool, muted blue color that pairs well with Sycorax Bronze as a split-complementary color combination. This pairing creates a sense of balance and harmony, while also adding a touch of coolness and contrast to the overall look. This color can be used to create highlights and accents on Sycorax Bronze, giving a sense of depth and dimension to your miniatures. The Skrag Brown wash represents built up rust without going too over the top. With this, highlight all the edges with Stormhost Silver instead of just the sharpest points. That extra definition will help distinguish the steel and bronze, but still look unified.

Scholars have wondered what it was that Sycorax did to avoid execution, as described in act one, scene two by Prospero: "for one thing she did / They [the Algerians] would not take her life." Charles Lamb, a Romantic writer fascinated by Shakespeare and his works, and particularly intrigued by this question, found in John Ogilby's "Accurate Description of Africa" (1670) two versions of a story about Emperor Charles V's invasion of Algiers in 1541, relating that a witch (not named in the source text) had advised the commander of the city not to surrender, predicting the destruction of the besieging fleet, which was accomplished nine days later by a "dreadful tempest". The principal version given claims that she was "richly remunerated" but the alternative version, "to palliate the shame and the reproaches that are thrown upon them for making use of a witch," attributes the storm to the prayers of a holy man named Cidy Utica.
