I was transfixed while her background was parceled out in increments and my understanding of her grew. So much time was wasted on trivial passages that were totally unnecessary and certainly did not enhance the story.

No cost is too great, and, as readers will discover, Jess is plunged into some very dark depths indeed in pursuit of her goals. Walking across the college campus, having fun with your friends, falling in love, making mistakes, no responsibility. So not only did I not understand why she was friends with them but I also didn't care about her as a character so I wasn't motivated to care about who killed her or understand why. I found everything I crave in a thriller (multiple POV, two timelines and a clever plot) AND the characters were well-developped. If you liked Marisha Pessl's Neverworld Wake or Laurie Elizabeth Flynn's The Girls Are All So Nice Here, trust me—you will love this.

Alternating between flashback chapters that take place during Jess’ time in college in the lead-up to Heather’s murder, and present-day chapters that follow the increasingly sinister events of reunion weekend, IN MY DREAMS I HOLD A KNIFE weaves an immersive tale of friendship, betrayal, love, and deadly obsession. The novel has some surprising revelations, and one stunning final admission that I didn’t see coming. They are each distinguished well and the developing cracks in their relationships add a lot of dark, brooding suspense in an already sinister-feeling mystery. All of the characters are so fleshed out and it was such a great mystery trying to figure out what actually happened in the past. Layne Fargo, author of They Never Learn “An unsolved murder, dark secrets and dysfunctional college days, all wrapped up in a twisty plot that will keep you flipping pages. Ten years ago, Jessica Miller and her friends—a clique known as the “East House Seven”—suffered a horrific tragedy when one of their own was brutally murdered in her dorm room, stabbed to death while she was sleeping.

In addition to my love/hate relationship with the characters, I was incredibly impressed by how atmospheric this novel was.this story thrillingly captures those exact imperfections the untouchable people desperately try to hide. Our other characters and suspects are star athlete Frankie, brain ( that fits with both for Jess and our victim Heather), golden boy Mint who was long time boyfriend of Jess and left her for social media influencer princess Courtney ( even though she is not the member of unlucky number seven, she’s involved into murder investigation by being married with Mint), sweet, social, loyal friend and Coop’s new fiancée Caro, shy, lovely Jack who was also boyfriend of Heather has been accused to kill her but Eric finally knows he was not the one who killed her sister so he didn’t involve in his murder investigation. Ten years after an unsolved campus murder, the victim's best friends reunite, knowing one might be a monster—but is anyone innocent?
