About this deal

In the unrated cut, by contrast, Kevin Bacon's and Robbi Morgan's death scenes run long enough that I can see the change in skin tone that masks the join where the prosthetics meets the real skin. The reason is, like you mentioned, the gore scenes run too long in the unrated cut, and it's much more obvious you are seeing Tom Savini's special effects (which are great, of course). Crystal Lake has deteriorated over the years after an accidental drowning and the murder of several counselors the following year. For more about Friday the 13th and the Friday the 13th Blu-ray release, see Friday the 13th Blu-ray Review published by Martin Liebman on August 20, 2021 where this Blu-ray release scored 3.

Grain levels are well resolved and fine detail has been boosted, particularly in the shadows where there was previously more crush. For this review of the massive "Deluxe Edition," we've broken Jason's overall continuity and evolution as the unstoppable, supernatural killing machine into three timelines.

This is also the start of familiar camerawork where Jason hides in the shadows or stands directly behind his victim before chopping them down. I didn't like that approach, though it made for better group screenings, by lessening the uncomfortability quotient. With memorable music by Harry Manfredini and gory effects by legendary makeup maestro Tom Savini, the slasher classic remains a blast. Dubbed the "Collection Deluxe Edition," the cult horror series arrives in a sturdy and stunningly attractive box with poster-like artwork that features the evolution of Jason Voorhees.

Also note that the overall score is not a real average of the scores but rather a personal response to the entire experience. Peter Bracke allows the talent to speak, but it's clear he exercised a masterful hand in editing (and balancing) the material into the final product. terrific, though, as do the rest of the films in the set, but one can only wonder what the resolution bump and HDR could've done. Clarity and distinction is notably improved as well, providing some of the louder, more intense sequences excellent definition, especially in Harry Manfredini's iconic score. Both the 2D and 3D versions of Part III have also been given a new 4K scan from the original camera negative and are presented in their original aspect ratio of 2.It feels a little disingenuous to release the SteelBook just two months after the regular packaging release, particularly with nothing new inside.
