Mmmm I like the author, one of the last of the great adventurers, but I found this book to be a tad egotistical.He has distilled those principles and ways of behaving that have allowed Ranulph Fiennes to do extraordinary things, and now he has shared those in this book. Fiennes has led over thirty expeditions, including the first polar circumnavigation of the Earth, and in 2003 he ran seven marathons in seven days on seven continents in aid of the British Heart Foundation. I found the timeline jumping back and forth a little frustrating at times but as a whole this is a very inspiring and impressive read.

Just the challenge of 7 marathons, in 7 continents, over 7 days is enough to inspire anyone to find their mountain, no matter what it is. He is the only person yet to have been awarded two clasps to the Polar medal for both Antarctic and the Arctic regions.The book can get slightly confusing when it bounces between a few of the different exhibitions but I was glued from Page 1. In the 1960s he was removed from the SAS Regiment for misuse of explosives but, after joining the army of the Sultan of Oman, received that country's Bravery Medal on active service in 1971. He was named Best Sportsman in the 2007 ITV Great Briton Awards and in 2009 he became the oldest Briton to reach the summit of Everest. Sir Ranulph Fiennes was the first person to reach both poles by surface travel and the first to cross the Antarctic Continent unsupported.
