After seeing the bottle and name I thought it would be darker and spicier so I felt a bit mislead at first but I absolutely love it for what it is. I love Deep Red and Im surprised it doesn't seem to be more well known, its definitely a gorgeous perfume. When I've smelt it on other people it's perfect and I fell in love with it, however it just does not agree with my skin chemistry.

I first smelled this as a sample on a school trip to England in 2001, and I remember falling in love with it then, but as a student I just couldn't afford it. Deep Red really shines when it reaches the base and dry down (which it quickly does): A little citrus from the top, ginger and "flowery" note from the middle - added to the great sandalwood-musk-vanilla combo (I don't get much of the cedar). It doesn't seem to have the same strength, intrigue and lasting power any more, but 20 years on, neither do I.I have to give it points for longevity and sillage, because it has that in spades, it's just not the kind of scent that deserves it. The scent has light, fruity top notes of black currant, blood orange, pear and clementine, which rest of middle notes of ginger, tuberose and freesia. It's not bad and I'm sure you can get complements with it but it's a little too light/fresh for my preferences. It does smell very good after it's been on you for a little bit but I don't like having to wait for it.

I literally can't wear it without getting flashbacks of that time and getting close to some identity crisis between 19 year old me and 34 year old me.This is somewhat unique, sweet and citrusy but I think it's the ginger which gives it a different, deeper edge. Its a bit heavier on the florals and lacks a creamy woodiness that V has but the dry downs are near identical.

I own both Valentino V and Deep Red now after seeing people say that Deep Red is similar to V and V Absolu. probably for the begging of 2000 it’s good, but nowadays there are plenty much better floral perfumes. And it lasts so well; (the first time I wore it I didn't spray any more on all day, to see how long it would last! Yes, this perfume is designed for women who want to express their passion and sensuality during evening occasions.Tonight I tried layering it with a strong ginger body wash, calgon's hawaiian ginger body cream and body mist. But when it hits my skin the ginger is completely gone and I get no traces of black currant, pear or other florals.

This would probably smell good on the right guy though or a girl who doesn't amplify the bitter and tart notes of cedar and black currant.
