About this deal

And after Krissy finds Jase standing over January, she supposedly has enough time to get Jase back to bed (without asking him what happened, for some reason), get rid of the body, and spray paint the wall (again, why? As CCO, she works with her team to create an overarching content strategy and vision for the network of shows and company growth. Which is fine but if you’re going to do that, it should’ve at least been mentioned in the description because it just seems like you’re turning that story into a way to capitalize off that case. I find it hard to believe that they wouldn’t have looked into this very deeply, given the family’s history. as it’s a typical plotline in thrillers to have the main character’s old friend she’d flirting with be a killer, but Pete was just a child when January died and seemed to have no motive.

I couldn’t agree with you more, I was counting on Jodi or Luke in a moment of lucidity to come in and save Margot. Seriously for starters just say he has dementia or early onset dementia stop referring to it as his condition. Margot was also the next door neighbor of and same age as little January Jacobs when she went missing. Both January’s and JBR’s parents gave somewhat awkward media interviews that made the public suspect they were not being forthcoming about everything they knew. The had noticed a tiny bit of blood on Jase’s pajamas all those years before; could they not find any blood on Billy’s clothes? The title of the book elicits the memory of “Good Country People” by Flannery O’Connor (Southern gothic yo! A stunning thriller set over two timelines, where almost everyone is lying to each other and everyone has secrets.

I felt like something was left off, I actually turned back in my kindle to see if I accidentally skipped some pages, but no.This case took place in the late 80s in the Midwest, and I was not familiar with it, but is a truly horrible and heartbreaking story.

I have a lot of respect for the author’s accomplishments and success, and it gives me no pleasure to hand out a 2-star review.I randomly picked the audiobook since it was available on Libby and the summary sounded interesting. Panicked, he slammed her head against the cement floor and, when he realized she was dead, put her baby blanket in her hand and then snuck back into his own bed. In the book, January’s father Billy, in a fit of rage over discovering that he’s not the biological father of January or her brother, means to harm his wife, but injures his daughter instead.

The book diverges from there, but despite a story that has its interesting moments, the writing is so poor that it detracts from what could have been a good murder mystery. Very disappointing actions by one of the biggest true crime podcasts, not to mention the complete lack of personal ethics and morals. The whole story made me feel sad about all the things that could have been and all the small things that could have gone differently to avoid how it all turned out- I like a book that can leave me with that much emotion at the end.Perhaps it depends on which characters we are rooting for – and, if we are satisfied with the outcome. I am never a fan of a plot with an elaborate cover-up for an accident, something that happens in many books. You also get alternating chapters told from the POV of January’s mom, Kristy, from 1994 when the murder occurred. All of these things are fine, I just feel like it was expected, because these are the topics she pushes in her podcast. Like I said before, there really aren't any surprises, and if there are, there's not enough suspenseful tension built up to make the reader care about the identity of the villain(s).
