About this deal
Thanks Netgalley and publisher for this anime inspired cookbook that I never seen anyone for real create.
She saw food in anime and wanted to track down the real life equivalent, or she was exposed to a dish in real life and then found it represented in anime. I also like how cookbook provides helpful notes, facts, and Culture facts to help you learn more about the dish(es) you’re preparing. Cook Anime is a fun (and admittedly slightly nerdy) tutorial guide and recipe collection for dining like our favorite anime characters. In true anime style, even the photos in the book are beautifully illustrated photos rather than pictures taken of the real life dishes.Featuring a diverse selection of dishes, from traditional Japanese to western fusion, each recipe is accompanied by a brief anime reference, comprehensive instructions, and a fascinating "Food facts" section providing cultural context. I love the concept of adding “Food Facts” and “Culture Facts” I really enjoyed these but then there’s a section about where to find other places certain foods appear in, and once again, I’m lost.
Mainly, I wish the cookbook had actual pictures of the finished products for each recipe, rather than the (admittedly cute) artworks of finished products. One thing I really appreciate is that the ingredients lists are done using both the US measurements and metric units. And for sugartooth readers there is option from dessert and drink such as starfish cone (clannad), kero's purin (cardcaptor sakura), prairie oyster (cowboy beebob). While most of the recipes do have animal products, there are some vegetarian and vegan recipes, and I think it wouldn't be too difficult to adapt the recipes to suite different dietary needs. However, I wish there was a real-life photo of each dish showing the author's attempt at her own recipes. I really appreciated the care the author too to make it just as beautiful as the illustrations of anime I've seen. Although I'm not a huge anime fan, I found its connection with food very interesting- food plays a pretty big part in so much anime! It’s refreshing with a lemon wedge or a little mound of daikon oroshi (finely grated daikon radish).
