Since switching to the bokashi stuff the worms don't seem interested, in fact they're hardly moving into tier 2 and 3, preferring to stay in tier 1. My choice of bedding material for the initial layer is corrugated cardboard because of its internal structure (the flutes) it allows an excellent air flow, cardboard retains moisture very well and the glue used is corn based and is good food source for the worms.
