About this deal

Firstly I would like to Thank Netgalley and Bookoutune and the author for a copy of this book to read. The moments that have made the greatest impact and understanding on me we’re going to the United States Holocaust Museum in 8th grade, going to what remains of the Dachau Concentration Camp when I was 21, and hearing Samuel Harris, a Holocaust survivor speak to a group of educators at 23.

Consoling the distraught woman, Ana realises amidst the terrible heartache there is a glimmer of hope. With the way the writing was done, I had trouble feeling any sort of emotional connection to the characters. The story is told through two characters: Polish midwife Ana Kaminski and Jewish nurse Ester Pasternak.

Es en este contexto donde hace aparición la resiliencia de las personas para, con una simple brizna de esperanza, mantener las ganas de luchar para conseguir sus objetivos. Not every baby was immediately murdered: Beginning in 1943, some were taken to give to Nazi couples as “Aryan” babies under Nazi Germany’s Lebensborn program, which kidnapped up to 100,000 babies in Poland alone. These two women are the main characters in this book, and considering the book starts at the beginning of WWII, you know that there is lots of drama ahead. Me ha encantado la manera de dividirlo en tres partes, antes del campo, durante y después y la narración a dos voces.

I found this book to be very well written, and it flowed from start to finish with great characters and written with empathy and strength. Por otro lado tenemos a Ester, enfermera y judía, conoceremos su historia de amor en tiempo donde los nazis aún estaban por llegar y viviremos como ella y su familia es apartada y llevada a los guetos judíos.

Ana and her family are active resistance members and risk their lives to smuggle food and nursing manuals into the ghetto, whilst taking advantage of every possible opportunity to help some of the Jews escape, including Ester’s teenage sister. The other important information Anna includes are about the Łódź Ghetto and The Lebensborn Programme. But she said that she would not be Herod to the innocents and that she would respect the Hippocratic oath and not kill children. As much as I have enjoyed Anna Stuart's "based on true stories" tales woven with fiction, I found THE MIDWIFE OF AUSCHWITZ an incredibly heartbreaking one to read.

Their home was given to the troops while they had to live all together, including with strangers, in a different house within the Ghetto. Determined to save as many as possible, and at immense risk to her own life, Leszczyńska refused to take part saying she ‘would not be Herod to the innocents, she would respect the Hippocratic oath and not kill children. Pregnancy in a concentration camp had to be terrifying and so was the camp itself, and Leszczyńska managed to look after all those women who were afraid. Women who found out they were pregnant at the camp were sometimes given abortions by Gisella Perl, a doctor who helped prevent hundreds of women from giving birth. A brave gambit by the author, which she has executed to perfection and with total empathy, highlighting a storyline which definitely needed to be told and that held me in thrall from the very first sentence, to the very final word.An absolutely heartbreaking and page-turning WW2 novel of one woman’s bravery and determination to bring life and hope into a broken world. I am a huge fan of 'The Tattooist Of Aushcwitz' so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. Stachurska has already written a best-selling book with the help of Leszkowicz entitled ‘The Midwife of Auschwitz’ from which a documentary was also made.

Thank you Anna Stuart, Bookouture, and Netgalley for the opportunity to receive an advance readers copy in exchange for an honest review. However, their resourcefulness and bravery, come at a huge physical and emotional cost which almost breaks them, especially Ester. Ambas coincidirán en este campo de concentración y ambas ayudarán a las madres del campo de concentración durante sus embarazos y el parto. Upon arrival at the camp all Jewish children were immediately gassed to death and the babies of pregnant woman killed. This book was very hard to read as a whole but there were certain parts that will stay with me for a very long time and that we're soul destroying. An Original Leather is being used for binding this book with Golden Leaf Printing and designing on Spine, front and Back of the book with edge gilding. We all die, but what is important is how we live our lives, and that is what will take with us when we cross the finish line. I think Stuart has empathy for these events, but as someone who didn’t live through it, she was unable to really take me as a reader into the experience.
