About this deal

During his book talk, An Evening With Rylan Clark, at London’s Royal Festival Hall last week, an audience member told the presenter: ‘You really deserve to be happy and I hope you’re not going to give up on [love]. But, says Tickle, there is nowhere: “Not a single bed is on offer in any registered, regulated secure care home across England or Wales.

Parts of it were fairly funny and it is obvious that he is still not over his marriage break up, although he seems to think he is. She’s been in there for months, her only contact with other humans via a hatch, through which she’s passed food. The star – who is back on screens tonight for Comic Relief – broke up with his husband of six years in the summer of 2021 – before then taking four months off work as his health took a turn. The judge presiding over the case is demanding that social workers and doctors find somewhere suitable for her to stay – a therapeutic environment where she has the chance to get better. Still, there are plenty of us who like our mornings livelier than Bruce, or who find Kay’s northern accent more welcoming than his predecessor’s Scottish smoothness.

Although his breakdown, or whatever is the best way to describe it, is mentioned throughout the book , he only dedicates one chapter to talk about it in detail, whereas the rest of the book he spoke about other parts of his life. Amongst many stories are his antics on radio 2 with Liza Tarbuck, bullying he’s experienced ( throughout his life), his career before and after X Factor, even his teeth get a couple of mentions and finally (or rather beginning with) his trauma and MH crisis following his separation. Made all the more special by Rylan’s mum Linda, Clare from steps, his sister in law, his friend and make up artist and his tv mum Ruth writing/reading their own little sections. The reality is that over the course of my relationship I had started to feel wrong: I felt I was wrong for being successful, wrong for being me.

As a society we don't discuss male mental health enough, but this book discusses it unflinchingly, and I applaud that. The TV presenter split from his husband last year after six years of marriage, and has been open about the toll it took on him, recently admitting that he suffered two heart failures and was hospitalised following the breakdown of his marriage. But I actually learnt to be alright on my own and I think that was a really important lesson I needed to learn at the age of 33, which is quite late for some people. Covering everything from fame and celebrity to his mental health and identity, family and relationships to his love of reality TV, he recounts his life lessons with humour, candour and a huge amount of heart. But the new guy has the backing of the head (R2 boss Helen Thomas), and by Wednesday he seemed a little more at ease, though it will take several months before he reaches the extreme cosy-cardy comfiness of his predecessor, Ken Bruce.

You don’t often read a autobiography where the person has been so raw, honest and blunt as Rylan has been. I remember laying in resus and I had all these pads on with all these wires and not understanding what it was,” he said. I left Rylan settled and happy at the end of volume one only to start volume two finding him busy destroying his own life - apparently. Overall it missed the mark for me, Rylan/Ross seems like a really nice guy and maybe I wasn't the right audience for this book, give it a go if you're already a fan.

Rylan then went on to claim that while his family thought he was just suffering from heartbreak – he knew it was far more serious. This is a sequel to his first autobiography, reflecting on the decade since it was published and the ups and downs he has experienced along the way. At the end of each chapter Rylan gives us his lessons learnt and throughout the book there are letters from some of his favourite people, family, friends and celebrities. On Wednesday, the mystery sound took too long to load; Kay fluffed when explaining how Vernon’s Vault works; his interactions with Richie on travel were strained. Such insights can seem basic, and the first interview, with wildlife cameraman/TV presenter Hamza Yassin, was a little dull.

Rylan first emerged on our screens in September 2012 and in the ten years since then has become a one-of-a-kind national treasure. Then, we had about 5 pages of him talking about how much he liked cleaning and another 5 talking about scents which was soooo unnecessary. He revealed in his book that he was ‘unfaithful’ to his ex, Dan Neal, which resulted in his mental health deteriorating. I remember how their faces looked when they saw me, seeing how badly ill I was, and then Eamonn became very upset. Rylan is truthful and he speaks about it not because he wants sympathy but because he wants to speak his truth and put the last few years behind him.Speaking about the split at the time, Rylan said: “I have made a number of mistakes which I deeply regret and have inevitably led to the breakdown of our marriage. The book is centred around the breakdown of Rylan's/Ross' marriage and the subsequent impact this had on him and these parts are well written and impactful but other areas of the book fell short. With unforgettable stories about his rise to fame, his biggest regrets and his special bond with his beloved mum, The decade that changed my future is as warm and honest, enormously entertaining and full of surprises as its brilliant Sunday Times bestselling author.
