About this deal

My thanks also to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for giving me the chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. I should point out, while mental and emotional trauma plays a chillingly large role in this story, the gruesome nature and vivid depiction of the physical trauma perpetrated is confronting too. I always really enjoy reading the books in this this series as I know they have well developed characters who I have come to like immensely. She touches on matters of rape, the inadequacy of procedures, how to deal with the feeling that you're letting everyone down, the difference between being crazy and crazed, how the world is never black and white and it would be foolish to assume so. No spoilers here but just a wholehearted recommendation for fans of the police investigation/ crime thriller genre.

As with previous books in the series, we're witnessing present-day acts of horrible murder and also a glimpse of what led to the crimes through flashbacks. This book keeps you so edge for so much of the story that once you do finish it, you will definitely need a lie down to actually process the insane journey this book takes you on! Now she must go deep undercover among the most deranged and dangerous men on earth, and use her unique skills to find the baby – before it’s too late. She currently commutes between Hampshire, Scotland and California, where she lives with her husband and three children. This engaging murder mystery meets crime fiction kicked off with the release of the first book, titled Perfect Remains. You’ve missed them, you want to know what they’ve been up to and you want to be there for them when things go wrong. Along the way, Fields pushes red herrings and twists skillfully to keep the intrigue and tension building.

I have not previously read this author and when I requested it wasn't aware that it was part of a series. This secondary story is truly authentic, tragic in its own way, and almost as nerve wracking as the attacks on the city. The book alternates between Ava’s perspective solving the crimes in the present and ‘before’ flashbacks from a character named Quinn. This is Helen Fields’ END GAME and once the dust has settled we’re going to have to deal with the fall-out.Brought up as part of a travelling fair, she’s an expert at counting cards and spotting cheats, and Vinsant puts her talents to good use. Faced with hostile locals and indifferent police, her desperate parents turn to private investigator Sadie Levesque.

Jane Isaac, author of An Unfamiliar Murder 'Grabs you at page one and holds on like a police dog tackling a suspect. He’s assigned to cases and it is his professional responsibility to make sure that missing persons or murders or unusual deaths are investigated and hopefully ultimately wrapped up neatly and solved– although someone in his position usually knows all too well that this is not the case. I'm definitely going to be finding the other books now and starting from the beginning to see if it gives this one a whole new feel. The writing is seriously clever, the actions of the killer make this book truly terrifying, but the twists add another level of surprise that truly leave you in awe and on the edge of your seat. This book is thrilling and heartbreaking in equal measure and massive changes happen that will have profound impact on the books that follow. Our second protagonist is Ava Turner, a sharp, bright, unfailingly hard-working detective who, as the series progresses, quickly rises through the ranks. Thank you again Avon, I am increasingly a fan of your authors and the mysteries and thrillers you support.
