Most schools that participate in book week will request that your children wear an outfit that represents your child’s favourite book character. Whether it's their sister's or friend's dress, most boys can find someone willing to offer them a frock for the day. Loads of your kid's favourite Disney films actually started out as Brothers Grimm fairy tales, which makes them a perfect option for World Book Day. You could even create a swag bag by painting a dollar sign on an old tote bag; perfect for gathering Halloween treats! Just plain clothes, messy hair and your very own Wonka Bar or golden ticket, which you could easily make yourself. For a fun Wizard of Oz fancy dress idea, simply paint ordinary cardboard boxes silver and cut holes for legs and arms, add a colander as a hat, and face paint.This one is possibly the easiest on to pull off simply pop some underpants over the top of your clothes, preferably white or light in colour and you've got yourself Captain Underpants! Dress them in black, add black feathers to wings (which can be made out of cardboard), and craft two long pointy horns onto a headband!
With World Book day or Book week just around the corner, many parents will be wondering what outfit to send their child to school in this year.Also from Matilda is the character Bruce Bogtrotter - the one punished for eating the headteacher's chocolate cake by being force-fed the entire thing. Never underestimate the use of spare black and white material, which can be fashioned into capes, wings, ears, a hat and much more. If you've already got a princess or character costume, there's usually a book character there somewhere - like Devon Birkett, who dressed up last year as Roald Dahl's The Enormous Crocodile and his sister Paige, who went as Belle from Beauty and the Beast.
Disney characters can have some simple and easy-to-copy outfits, and most of them are based on books. World Book Day wouldn't be the same without Julia Donaldson's characters in the mix and this one's a very simple one to recreate. So if your child has a natural afro, comb it out, pop in a ribbon and dig out a pink vest top or T-shirt and let her strut her stuff! Just draw this beautiful rainbow-coloured heart onto a big piece of sturdy card and attach a string so you child can wear it around their neck.Some team it up with a walking stick or even a zimmer frame if someone will lend you one for the day. Many little ones might already have their own ballet costume so Angela Ballerina is another easy one to opt for. It's mostly school clothes you've probably already got for this one, with just shorts and white top needed.
