About this deal

Jack and his Mother's café face closure after a the building of a new flyover, but after obtaining some magic baked beans and meeting a giant obsessed with money their fortunes change. This ‘flyover’ symbolises the way in which the super wealthy build their empires without a second thought to the little people, passing them over, so to speak. Over the years it has been retold in many different versions, though the tale we know today is said to relate most closely to that inspired by Joseph Jacobs in English Fairy Tales in 1890. I thought it was going to be a fresh take on the original, however the author removed a couple of the elements that made the original story so good. An activity I would do in second or third grade with this book is retelling the story with character cards.

When he comes back with baked beans instead, she throws them out resulting in the growth of the beanstalk.

Bryn was very tickled by the nice giant with a love of cooking although he would have preferred him to be "eating people and grinding bones to make his bread".

Perfect for a literature comparison study, this book is appropriate as a read-aloud for 1st-4th, independent reading/analytical writing for 2nd-5th graders. Take a closer look at this wooden pole below, with the electrical cabling wound around it; this city hasn’t completely given itself over to industrialism — vestiges of the more wholesome natural world remain. The focus is on a change of workplace for Jack and his mum and consider the type of giant they would like to have in their version of the story. He then gained valuable experience with Steven Spielberg’s Amblimation where he worked as a Background Artist and Art Director. Some of our partners may process your data as a part of their legitimate business interest without asking for consent. However, when Jack wakes the next morning, he finds that the magic beans scattered across the garden have grown into a giant beanstalk outside his window. He is a kind-hearted giant, who doesn't object to letting his giant-egg-laying chicken and magical radio go home with Jack; and in the end he (accidentally) joins them as well, as the celebrity chef at Jack and his mom's burger-truck-turned-Baked-Beanstalk-Cafe. Jack and the giant decide to make a restaurant named the Baked Beanstalk Cafe and now it is a famous restaurant. After Jack steals a singing harp on his third adventure, he slags the giant by chopping down the beanstalk while the giant is chasing him down to the earth from his kingdom in the clouds.
