As the daughter of a wealthy politician, Ana is expected to marry a man chosen for her, and not the penniless carpenter named Jesus she meets in a chance encounter. Frequently, I’ll find myself in a situation where a stray line or phrase will drift through my thoughts… After publication, a few of the poems here later became lyrics on some of Leonard’s final albums.

I am amazed at the coherence of the different stories which run parallel to each other, in different lands, in different times and yet stand still for a reader willing to devour them.
