About this deal

Some might say that stuffing a KONG is an art form. Sure, you can jam some peanut butter in there and call it a day, but there are ways to elevate your KONG game. Here are tips from Taylor on how to stuff a KONG: Tip 1: Start off loose It’s perfectly safe to leave your dog with a Kong toy since they are designed with a safe, durable rubber that is unlikely to break into small hard pieces. If your dog doesn’t have food allergies, this can be an easy option for Kong stuffing. Think cooked meat (turkey, steak, etc.), rice or oatmeal, yogurt, scrambled eggs, and other dog-friendly human foods. 4. Chunks of Fruits & Veggies Does your dog have a sensitive tummy? This might be a treat for them. Make sure you’re giving them the healthy stuff that doesn’t contain any added sugar (definitely don’t use pumpkin pie filling).

You can combine the cheese with some regular dog food to make it stretch. You can also pop the Kong into the microwave for a few seconds to make the cheese soft. Just be sure the Kong is cool before you give it to your pet. IMPORTANT: While it’s perfectly fine to give your dog a Kong toy that just came out of the freezer, it’s NOT okay to give your dog any food item that just came out of the microwave! Make sure any heated items have completely cooled to room temperature before serving to your dog. Some dogs need a little bit of time to get used to the idea that their Kong is not for begging or playing, but once they learn how it works, they will typically be excited about getting one. What Should I Put In a Kong? I’ve found that a mix of different textures/tastes helps keep my dogs interested and occupied so that they don’t get bored and leave the KONG half full.Because we may be using high value treats. It is important that we give our dogs their own space to enjoy their treat. A place where they won’t be disturbed. This will prevent them from feeling anxious around the stuffed Kong and will prevent them from feeling the need to resource guard. Mixing the pumpkin with oatmeal, rice, peanut butter, or meat is a great way to slip in some healthy fiber. If your dog is younger than 12 weeks, you should use the kibble that your puppy has already been eatingto fill up its teething toy rather than choosing something different. The reason for this is that puppies’ digestive systems are not fully developed until they reach about four months of age, so it’s important to take extra care when feeding them. For the simplest Kong treat of all, just smear a little peanut butter or honey around the inside of the Kong. You’d be surprised how long your dog will work at this simple little treat.

If you have multiple dogs, give each one their own Kong to avoid any territorial issues! Also, keep in mind that not all toys are perfect for dogs to share, so find a toy that is safe for your pooch to play with alone. A dog that is 5 pounds or less will do well with an extra small Kong. If your dog is 20 pounds or less, a small Kong will work great. Medium Kongs are perfect for dogs that weigh between 12 and 35 pounds and large Kongs are ideal for dogs that weigh between 30 and 65 pounds. When Should You Give Your Dog a Kong? Consider using the Kong after dinner time and before bedtime so your pup can settle down for a good night’s sleep. Can I Give My Dog a Kong Everyday? You can put wet food, dry kibble, peanut butter, coconut oil, or any other tasty treats into your dog’s Kong toy! The Kong brand makes many types of fillings so you can find a flavor that your dog loves. Smear some peanut butter on a slice of bread. Fold up the bread and cram it into the Kong. Freeze & serve. Place the stuffed Kong in the fridge for a few hours before giving it to them. You can place the stuffed Kong into a freezer bag or a tuppaware container before placing it into your fridge. This will help firm up the wet food and make it more difficult for your dog.
