The Scottish thriller author Will Jordan has been writing for some time now, creating his unique brand of high-octane suspense filled narratives that manage to constantly keep the reader glued to the edges of their seats, right up until the very end. Chiefly known for his character Ryan Drake who he’s kept running for over five books so far and counting, he’s already turning heads within the industry due to his ability in combining both suspense and intrigue. Living in Fife he has a strong interest in military history and modern warfare techniques, something which is clearly reflected through the accuracy displayed in his stories. Distrustful of this uneasy alliance and with no outside support to call on, Drake gathers his small group of trusted team mates and embarks on his most difficult and dangerous mission yet. However, his plans soon unravel, forcing him into a deadly game of cat and mouse against a vengeful British intelligence officer with an unknown agenda. Despite grave danger, the team is able to rescue Maras and return her to the United States unharmed. Drake’s part in the story seems to be over, but a chilling phone call from Munro reveals that his sister has been taken hostage. If he ever wants to see her again, he must free Maras and use her to uncover a secret the CIA will do anything to keep hidden, and Munro will do anything to uncover. The main "hero" is extremely unlikeable and his dialogue is so incredibly cringy its hard to imagine someone would be so rude. He lives in Scotland with his wife and two sons, and is currently writing the next novel in the Ryan Drake series.

For Ryan Drake, this is just the beginning as the sniper is revealed to be Anya – the rogue former CIA agent he helped rescue from prison nearly two years earlier. Now she has allied herself with an elusive but deadly new terrorist group bent on the utter destruction of the Russian government.

The plot is a paint by numbers, formulaic hero-saves-the-world story. The Dyatlov Pass mention is just used to mascarade a bland story we all have seen before hundres of times. As for how long the series has left, that's tough to say! I'm contracted for at least 3 more books by my UK publisher, and there are certainly a few more scrapes for Drake to get into along the way. Obviously every story to end eventually, but as for Drake himself... well, there are a lot of places I plan to take his character development first. That's what I enjoy most about this series - watching Drake and his companions change and develop with each book. The prologue is the retelling of The Dyatlov Pass event from 1959 on Ural Mountain where A Russian team of nine were found dead with immense and inexplicable injuries. The Dyatlov Pass continues to be unsolved.It's also very well written, that may sound like a contradiction with what I just said, but the prose is efficient, vivid and does the job. I don't think there was a moment in this book where I wasn't grounded in the setting and following the action with ease and enjoyment. Time is running out for Ryan Drake. With his enemies moving against him and his allies no longer able to support him, his world is turned upside down by a personal tragedy that forces him to return to the UK. With many major publications singing Jordan’s praises, most are drawn towards his sense of suspense. That and his ability to create action set-pieces which are highly visceral and entertaining for his readers to experience, is what many readers have come to appreciate, as he gains fans both far and wide. The career of Will Jordan is growing from strength-to-strength due to this, something that doesn’t appear to stopping anytime soon.
