Kobo crams 1.5 million pixels into its 6.8" Aura H2O e-reader". Ars Technica. April 2016 . Retrieved 16 April 2013. While reading, I never experienced any discomfort or inability to view the Glo HD's screen. I took it outside in the sun, and I never had to squint or deal with any glare. It worked just as well on the bus, on the subway, and indoors. It's a good-looking, veryreadabledisplay.

Kobo Aura One Leaks, Has a 300 PPI 7.8″ E-ink Screen for 229 Euros’, The Digital Reader, 2016-8-9, retrieved 15 August 2016. Hoffelder, Nate (4 May 2017). "Kobo Aura H2O (2017) Teardown Reveals There's No Internal Card Slot". The Digital Reader . Retrieved 20 May 2023.Getting the best out of the Kobo Glo requires a little bit of fiddling, because it gives you so much control. Conversely, the Kindle range takes a more Apple-like approach, largely dictating how text looks. frtls (22 September 2022). "Kobo 2E Internal Images - SD Card Confirmed". r/ereader . Plug the wall charger (not included) to a power outlet, and then connect your eReader to the wall charger. There are no shadowy dark patches here, but there’s a line of brighter white up top, and at top brightness the colour appears to turn blueish towards the bottom. It’s a little brighter than the Paperwhite’s, though, and they perform roughly as well as each other. It’s a superb step up from the non-lit Kobo model. One of the best bits of Kobo’s higher-end ereaders like the Kobo Glo is the interface, which is thoroughly tasteful, intuitive and lovely to look at. Most importantly, it puts your most-recently read books within a tap of the homescreen, which shows five thumbnails in decreasing size. Ridden, Paul (25 May 2011). "Kobo launches new e-Reader Touch edition". Gizmag . Retrieved 26 May 2011. Speaking of dingy, the screen has sort of a rough and dirty appearance when viewed at an angle, whereas the Kindle Paperwhite looks really clear. Head-on you can't really notice it, but side-by-side the Kindle's screen is sharper and clearer. It must have something to do with the layer used for the frontlight. Welcome the New Kobo Family of Devices – An eReader for Everyone!". Toronto: Kobo. 6 September 2012. Archived from the original on 10 September 2012 . Retrieved 6 September 2012.

The slate of reading extras on offer is pretty basic: dictionary lookup, notes, highlights, bookmarks, search in book, and sharing passages on Facebook. Kobo doesn’t offer anything as fancy as X-Ray on Kindle. We like the included translation dictionary. With it users can translate words to and from English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese. Very useful if you come across a word or phrase in a book that the author declines to translate for you.

The high resolution screen is a nice upgrade, but in all honesty the difference is hardly noticeable in real life. Text is a little sharper and clearer, especially smaller text, but the high resolution screen certainly doesn't give enough of a reason to be a deciding factor over another device. For instance, the Sony PRS-T2 with the standard E Ink screen is just as easy to read. If anything the text looks a little darker without the frontlight layer. The Clara HD was released on 5 June 2018. [51] It has a 6-inch, 300 ppi screen. [52] Kobo Aura One [ edit ] Kobo promises over 70 hours of continuous usage with the ComfortLight on and the Wi-Fi turned off. We used the Glo for over a week with the Wi-Fi on and near continuous usage of the light and the battery only got down to about half. Depending on your reading habits, the Glo will last anywhere from a few weeks to a month. Heavy readers will get at least a week, likely more. Though that’s not a record for an E Ink device, it’s definitely good for an e-reader with a built-in light and Internet connectivity. Conclusion Aura HD Request for KOBO AURA HD microSD image - MobileRead Forums". www.mobileread.com . Retrieved 20 May 2023.

The main screen shows tiles that automatically update based on actions the user has performed. Tiles may appear for books, newspapers, magazines, store categories, or user has recently read, browsed, or played, respectively. The main screen is called "Reading Life". [5] This software feature originated on the Kobo Aura HD and was brought to the Kobo Glo with a software update. The Kobo Glo is compatible with EPUB files (the current e-book standard) plus PDF, RTF, TXT, and HTML files. It can handle e-books with no DRM or Adobe’s DRM scheme. This means that users can load books from other stores (using the Adobe Digital Editions program for Mac/PC) such as Barnes & Noble, Sony, and Google, and from libraries that offer e-book lending. Battery Life IPX8 water resistance is available from both (except on the 10.3-inch models from both brands), as are adjustable illuminated displays for reading in the dark. Most of the higher-end models also allow you to change the hue (or temperature) of the light from cold to warmer yellow for nighttime reading. However, only the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition has a front light with an ambient light sensor that auto-adjusts its brightness. That device is also capable of wireless charging, which Kobo doesn’t offer at all.

Wi-Fi, an e-ink screen and EPUB compatibility on Kobo's Kindle Paperwhite rival

Linux on the Kobo Glo HD ( part 1) ( part 2): I don't understand a word of it but it seems to work. If you live in the US, your options to borrow ebooks from your local public library are much more. Both Kindle and Kobo ereaders will work, with the latter using OverDrive support to do so.
