The Pioneer DDJ-SB3 is a 2-channel DJ Controller solely designed for use with Serato DJ Lite (originally known as Serato DJ Intro) which features Pad Scratch, an industry first! On top of that, Pad scratch has been co-developed with world-renowned DJ Jazzy Jeff. The DDJ-400 and DDJ-SB3 have a similar overall size and weight. Both are Pioneer DJ’s most compact devices in its DDJ range of controllers, and while their general build is similar, the main differences lay in the controls and how they are laid out on both devices. The DDJ-SB3 features straightforward audio connections. Headphones connect to the front of the controller using a smaller 1/8th TRS connection. Speakers connect to the two RCA line-level outputs on the rear, labelled master. These are colour coded with the red connection for the right speaker and white being for the left. Before connecting the Pioneer DJ DDJ-SB3, ensure you have the latest version of Serato installed on your computer, available here . The DDJ-400 does away with the individual FX sections and instead distils all FX control into a Beat FX strip that sits beside the mixer at the centre of the unit. This is consistent with the Beat FX that you’d find on a Pioneer DJ DJM mixer such as the DJM-900NXS2, DJM-450, DJM-750MK2 and so on. This allows beginner DJs to get used to tweaking with Beat FX at home so it isn’t confusing when getting behind a CDJ/DJM set-up, which admittedly isn’t as intuitive as using the individual FX sections of past DDJ controllers. 5. Performance pad functionsThe SB3 is the latest addition to the Serato controller family and inherits many of its features from the ever-popular DDJ-SB2 along with others in the DDJ-S series. The controller provides an instinctive layout, is easily moveable and includes top-of-the-range features, all of which are suited for a beginner DJ. DDJ-SB3 Key Features Both are fantastic entry-level DJ controllers at beginner-friendly prices, and ultimately your decision will hinge on whether you’d like to spin with Serato DJ or Rekordbox DJ. You do lose the Pad Scratch feature if you go with the DDJ-400, but you can scratch on both devices using the jogwheels anyway.
