About this deal

And then there’s the issue that if you promise dark chocolate, you should really deliver dark chocolate. I love dark chocolate – it’s rich is wonderful, and I don’t even mind the hint of bitterness. But this isn’t it. It’s too sweet and too faint a flavour. Plus, the chocolate coating is too thin for it to hold it’s own against the mint. This one looked almost exactly the same as the chocolate dough (from the outside.) It had the chocolate chunks on top and a milk chocolate coating. Sweetness– Not too sweet, but sweetened with sugar alcohols to the perfect level. A few of them have a good balance of salty & sweet. Like salty peanuts, white chocolate protein bars are also made with almost the same ingredients except for almonds.

The texture is smooth, softer, and crunchy(due to peanuts). The filling of caramel cream gives it an excellent fudgy chewing experience. Its sour, sweet texture makes it a perfect protein bar for those who don’t like to eat too sweet protein bars. The white chocolate coating is lovely, but it’s still so thin that the almond pieces are still essentially naked, but the almond pieces themselves are a better choice than the go-to crispies of other brands. The core is soft with a slight chew and, although I’ve literally just shaded them, I do like the crispies in there for the subtle crunch. Historically speaking, protein bars have been very dense and chewy. For bars that have tried to mimic the candy bar textures, I’ve found that the flavor is not quite there, or they end up tasting very artificial (like Fit Crunch Bars). At 55g these bars are slightly smaller than average, but they are also slightly lower in calories, with each being around 200kcal. Although the macros range depending on flavour, each boasts an impressive nutritional profile. You’re guaranteed 20g of protein, around 15g carbs, and minimal sugar, although the fat content (8-10g, with around 5g saturated fat) might put some people off. It’s not too sweet, but there’s definitely sweetness to it. There are sugar alcohols (14g) in these bars to sweeten them, which often don’t sit well with my stomach. But after eating quite a few of these bars (multiple boxes) I haven’t noticed any issue with the sugar alcohols.

I tried Chocolate Dough first because this flavor was the most appealing to me (who can pass up a good chocolate option? Not me!) It tastes like a mixture of chocolate cake and a candy bar. It’s kind of like a Crunch bar because of the crunchy chocolate pieces on top (in protein bar form, of course…) It’s not fair if we don’t discuss plant-based protein bars. There are hundreds of thousands of people who use plant-based protein bars regularly. Barebells made some rather large claims when this flavour was released, and similarities with a certain range of luxury Italian chocolates were more than implied (‘little crunchy Rocher-style Hazelnut pieces’). Does it live up to their hype? Enter the protein bar, a convenient way to get some extra protein in your diet when you're on the go.In terms of flavor, this bar actually reminds me of a Twix bar, which is one of my favorite candy bars of all time.

One of the main things I noticed when trying these was the texture. They’re not chalky at all, but also not too chewy (at least in this flavor.) It’s hard to find a protein bar with a good texture, so I was really impressed with that. Anyway, at time of writing, Barebells protein bars come in nine flavours, which you can skip to using the links below: White chocolate almonds have the protein same as salty peanut and the other protein bars, and the only major difference is that it’s got 20 grams of carbs in a single serving, which is a little higher than the salty peanut barebells protein bar.I won’t lie, this bar disappointed me. Although not a fan of coconut, I’ll make an exception when it’s mixed with chocolate – just not for this bar. To make things easier, we asked nutritionist extraordinaire Jenna Hope to give an expert verdict on some of the most popular protein bars on the market right now (as well as subjecting them to a very rigorous taste test ourselves – it's a hard job, but someone's got to do it!).
