About this deal

For larger areas of filler I roughly smoothed over, then again used the paintbrush to texture and blend in the filler. Just scraping over with a knife will leave a smooth area which will show through the paint

Forgot to add that a descent, heavy grade lining paper may do the job and save you from skimming the walls is very good, stripped off wall paper in several bedrooms here, paint underneath was distemper type paint, colour rubbed off on your hand if wet, also dusty, 406 sealed it perfectly for painting. I would not normally advise painting since this is going to present yet another barrier to any trapped moisture evaporating away naturally without causing further damage.Stabilising solution is in essence a sealer for poor surfaces. So in reference to previous answer....how can it be breathable? I've heard that you shouldn't apply stabilising solution to new render, but I'm not sure why? I have to do something about the chalky render before painting, don't I? It's been a year since the render was applied, so I guess it's not technically "new" anymore, it's just "unpainted".

there is no need to use it really unless you got 20 litres of stabiliser in your garage you need to use up. Stabilising solution should also be used when the surface breaks down easily and becomes loose and powdery (also known as chalking). This kind of wall defect is usually caused by weather (specifically wind and excess rain), which is inevitable for most exterior surfaces. Allows painting of new render finishes and re-pointing repairs without alkaline contamination of the paint, which would otherwise delay painting by up to 2 months. One coat should normally be sufficient but very porous surfaces may require additional coats. Drying time will vary depending on the ambient temperature, but normally 4 – 8 hours should be allowed for each coat to fully dry. For the best results allow surfaces to cure for a minimum of 24 hours before applying the Weatherflex Smooth Masonry Paint. DO NOT apply when air or surface temperatures are below 8 °C. Cure all root causes remove all moss & mould contamination by using a product such as Everbuild 404 Fungicidal Wash
