About this deal

So long as the door isn’t white and has been painted the same colour each time, then Polytrol will work just fine. If your front door looks dated, you may be considering whether you should replace it or refurbish it. At Door Renew, we prefer to refinish wood doors rather than replace them, and here’s a few reasons why: Scott James Sash Window Specialists refurbished the front door only as a part of the window restoration project. The door didn’t take us longer than 20 minutes so we could do it all in one go but if it will take you any longer than 20 minutes, you will need to work within areas that can be completed within this time-frame. Polytrol will restore the colour of the over coated paint, but unfortunately will not hide any brush marks, patchiness or any other blemishes present.

Period front door restoration - Wooden front door refurbishment

Good preparation is key to a good finish. To have an excellent result you must begin with a clean door free to any dirt, grease, grime and mildew. As Polytrol work by saturating deep down into the surface, if you have any wax or polish applied to the door, this will also need to be removed before application of Polytrol can begin. All our work is guaranteed and meets BS EN16005 standards. We will provide you with an accurate quote before commencing any work, so you will know exactly how much it will cost. Failing that, we can only recommend you speak with the people who fitted the door again and ask them to look into it further as there may be a manufacturing problem. Then, as long as the original colour is not too faded, you could use Polytrol to restore the colour: https://www.owatroldirect.co.uk/product/polytrol/

If a new wood door isn’t in the budget and you decide to replace it, you may end up with a lesser quality door.

How to revive a composite front door | Owatrol Direct

I received an excellent, reliable and truthful service. Will definitely be keeping this number for any future door problems and for recommending to family and friends in the knowledge they will also receive a first class service from a friendly guy who won’t rip you off. Certain styles of doors were popularised at different times throughout history. However, previous homeowners may have changed their doors to keep up with the current styles and trends, just as you are doing now. Came at the time he said he would. Thorough and persevered despite a difficult door hinge which took him much longer to sort out than he first thought. Happy with price quoted and would happily do business again. However, we can retrofit double glazing into most timber doors without changing their look of them at all. We preserve the style but update the glass and draughtproofing technology.Polytrol works by saturating deep into the surface of the door, not by leaving a coating, so removal of the excess Polytrol is important. Both of these products are available in a 100ml sample pot – we would recommend purchasing these and testing them out in a small area first. As you can see, the steps we take to restore your period doors do not change their style of them at all. But rather, give them a new lease of life, and make them look like they did when they were first installed in your home. Although we didn’t have any mildew on the door, if you do, don’t worry. Mildew can be treated with a 50:50 bleach and water solution. Just scrub it on, leave it for 10-15 minutes, then rinse it off.

A new wood front door is expensive, but you can have the same new-door look with your existing wood door and our front door refinishing services. Firstly, prepare the door. Remove any dirt, grease, grime or mildew from it. If there is any wax or polishes on the door, you will also need to remove this. All waxes, polishes, silicone etc should be completely and thoroughly removed as this will hinder the penetration of Polytrol. However, if you’d like to modernise your home’s energy efficiency, you may feel like there is no other option but to change the doors. Before application, you would need to clean the surface thoroughly with warm soapy water or Net-Trol ( https://www.owatroldirect.co.uk/product/net-trol/).For more information about Paul and his company please see his bio below. We couldn’t wait to see the photos and share them with our other customers. I’m sure you’ll agree that the transformation is nothing short of marvellous! If you still have any queries regarding the use of Polytrol, please call us on 01582 592707 and we will gladly assist you. If, however, there are other colours underneath the top layer, there is a chance this will come to the surface.

As I have said the paint has faded, the colour looks sad and the grain is showing white lines along the grain. Please advice and let me know where I can get the Polytrol colour restorer. What you could do is remove the paint that has been applied with Dilunett: https://www.owatroldirect.co.uk/product/dilunett-gel/ As you have suspected, using a wire brush will indeed leave scratch marks and Polytrol will not cover these. In fact they will probably accentuate them. If the door is particularly dirty you might want to consider using a cleaning product such as Owatrol Net-Trol. Or for the removal of mildew you may want to use something such as a 50:50 bleach and water solution. You could try a sample pot of Polytrol to see if it will recover the surface of the door. We’d recommend trying it first in a small area to see if it will recover the surface. Any rot we find on the door and the door frame is then repaired. For larger areas of damage, we splice in fresh wood. These are heritage doors that add so much character to your property. Removing original doors takes away a lot of the charm and style of your home. After cleaning, leave the door to dry for 24 hours before applying Polytrol. Make sure that your door is completely dry before moving on to the next step! 2. Apply the Polytrol
