About this deal

In this Toniebox review, I can’t not mention that the Toniebox and accompanying Tonies are expensive. Another benefit of a Toniebox is that it’s portable so it’s great for long car journeys, travelling or taking out and about with you. The Yoto Player is a very similar concept to the Toniebox except that it uses cards instead of figurines for loading different audio content. Another brilliant feature of the Toniebox is the fact it doesn’t require a WIFI connection to work – unlike a smart speaker. As long as you have the Tonie to pop on top, the box will work – making it an ideal travel companion.

Ready-to-play Tonie figures comes pre-loaded with songs and stories from your favourite characters. Take bedtime stories wherever you travel with Audiobook Tonies from Disney and Julia Donaldson, or dance along to Music Tonies with fun songs. Each hand-painted Tonie features a cute character design for playtime on and off the Toniebox. The three-year-old loves the figurines nearly as much as she does listening to the device itself, and regularly makes up imaginary stories starring the characters. Meet Tonies, the new audio system for kids. The Toniebox lets you take music and bedtime stories wherever you go with cute characters, easy controls and no bright screens. Listen, sing and tell your very own stories – there are so many ways to play! Free content in the MyTonies app including stories, sleep sounds and timers for things like brushing teeth. In this Toniebox review, I’d say this is one of my biggest disappointments of the product and I certainly would have expected an easier, glitch-free user-experience for the price. 3. Varied Listen TimeThe Toniebox is small enough to be held (with two hands) by a child. It’s not heavy plus is padded with a woven sustainable fabric cover, meaning no sharp edges or potential injuries if they drop it on their foot! You can use the My Tonies app to set up your Toniebox, and then after that it becomes a way to manage usage of your speaker plus a way to access free content, and create your own! Content can’t be paused and skipping a section by tapping the box doesn’t always work. You have to tap in the exact right spot and I imagine if you had a creative Tonie with 30 songs on it, this could be annoying! This past year of pandemic living has made nearly everyone more reliant on screens… and therefore more desperate than ever for screen-free entertainment. That's particularly true of families, who may be searching for non-screen toys for their youngest members (if they have an educational component, even better). As I mentioned in the opening of my Toniebox review, we bought Olive the box for her first birthday. Although I was aware that she wouldn’t be interacting with it like a 3-8 year old might, I still saw it as a lovely gift she could grow into.

It’s actually really lovely to have a ‘toy’ they can all play with together. They can all work it alone but they can also enjoy it together. Despite this if your kids love those classic Donaldson favourites then I would definitely get them as they also include some music and are lovely for fans of the books. Tonieboxes are designed for children aged three years and up, although I'd say that they can be used by younger children, too. My children have used them from around the age of a year and a half, when they particularly enjoyed the musical Tonies and songs. Obviously, the older they get, the more engaged they will be with all the stories available. What Is The Point Of A Toniebox? Although you can plug in headphones, your child will be limited in movement when listening. This means Olive won’t be able to use them until she’s much older and can understand the concept of sitting still and not getting herself in a tangled mess. 7. Quality of Character Tonies do Vary I think you can use a Toniebox and its content for a baby, for example there are nap time sound Tonies as well as nursery rhymes and songs, but you wouldn’t give the box to a baby to use themselves. They would benefit from listening to the content at that age, but I think you want to wait a few years until you let them handle operating the device.Yes! How adorable. The creative tonies allow you to record 90 minutes of your own content onto a tonie, giving it the ultimate personal touch as a Christmas present. Imagine Nana reading a book every night... ok, dry your eyes now. Are Tonies Worth The Cost? Both Yoto and Tonies do state the recommended ages for their content, but I think Yoto is a bit better at an accurate age recommendation. Per another post regarding Roald Dahl's "The Witches" I do agree that it is a parents'/guardians' responsibility to confirm that content is appropriate prior to allowing children to have access, but we don't always have that kind of time to spare. (The 4 year old started scream/crying the other day, traumatized over a Sophia the First episode.) I would give Yoto the edge on the free content, because it has a radio station and podcast. The radio station plays fun tunes in the day and sleepy lullabies at night.

I particularly like the fact you can use the app to set a maximum limit on the volume on the Toniebox, as the kids tend to play things as loud as they will possibly go whereas I need them a little quieter to hear myself think! And the new Yoto 3rd gen player also has a temperature sensor that you can read via the app too – handy only if you have little kids. Cost One of the coolest things about the Toniebox is that it also allows you to create your own content. Below is my Toniebox review focused on using it with a toddler (1 – 2 year old). Coming with a hefty price tag, here are my honest thoughts on whether the TonieBox is really worth the money. There are nursery faves (songs and stories), Disney hits (which both tell stories and play songs), classic storytime tales, educational titles and more. The brand has just launched its new advent calendar Tonie - an adorable reindeer who will upload a new story via your WiFi every day - and there's a podcast Tonie, too. Which Is The Best Tonie For Kids? This has been the perfect location for our Toniebox, as they kids can listen to songs when they’re playing or snuggle up on one of their bean bag chairs and listen to the story. You can buy the headphones, bag and storytelling Tonies, like Peppa Pig, separately from the Toniebox itself. Rachel Rothman The Toniebox is about as simple as it gets to operate, once you’ve gone through the initial setup process. This music and Audible books can also be played via your phone so you can play them in the car or while travelling.

But there are some key differences you need to be aware of when making your purchasing decision. Screen

However because there is such a fantastic range of content it also suits older kids right up to age seven. I would say age six or seven is probably where a child may lose interest in a Toniebox. What kind of Tonies can you get? You can control some elements of the Toniebox – such as volume level and the light on top – via the app. And you can find a selection of free content on the MyTonies app too. Use the ears on top of the Toniebox to increase and decrease volume. You can also press and hold either to sync your Toniebox with the app after making changes in your settings (such as setting limits on the volume). When the lights turn green it will automatically play. If they flash blue this means the content is loading, just wait for it to turn green.
