About this deal

Yes, StarSense features All-Star Polar Alignment to get you accurately polar aligned using any named star. Before you polar align your equatorial mounted telescope, StarSense will automatically align the GoTo which allows you to point to any celestial object in the hand control’s database. Once the GoTo is aligned, StarSense guides you through the easy All-Star Polar Alignment routine to accurately polar align. At Rother Valley Optics, one thing we pride ourselves on is customer service and quality of our equipment. When we test your telescope, we will ensure that it is of the highest quality otherwise, we will reject the scope under our strict quality control and test another model for your peace of mind. One of the main values to look at when testing a refractor is the Strehl ratio. The higher this number, the higher quality lens you have. At Rother Valley Optics, we will guarantee the highest possible Strehl ratio for your telescope. We will aim to provide 0.95 Strehl or higher on Takahashi, RVO Horizon, William Optics and many more! Generally, the higher the Strehl ratio, the lower the Astigmatism and Coma meaning a better image quality from your instrument. The Celestron StarSense AutoAlign device is an accessory for Celestron telescope mounts that automatically aligns itself with the night sky. It uses an internal camera to capture an image of the stars in the sky, and analyze it to identify the stars in the image. I did read through your entire post. I read every post in my threads. Not a big deal. But much of your post was alien to my experience. For instance, I don't know what these terms mean: CPWI, PHD2. Should I necessarily know these things, as a visual astronomer with 50-years experience in visual astronomy, and not a big fan of goto?In fact, my very first sentence in the opening post was, "I have a NexStar SE mount that I haven't used in years." I think you are assuming too much. EdgeHD optics produce a focal plane more than three times flatter than a standard Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and dramatically flatter than competing coma-free designs. This guarantees you visibly sharp stars across full frame sensors.

The range features several optical designs, depending on the specific model. These designs include reflectors, refractors, and catadioptric telescopes. An internet connection is required for online Location settings, object info, the online object database, or to auto-update drivers for the cable connections mentioned above.

Be aware 1. that the owner’s manual is awful; 2. that StarSense wants the time in 24 hour version not 12 hour AM/PM; and 3. that you’ll need to re-enter the date and time each session, unless you’ve got a GPS unit also. Provides advanced mount modelling - align on numerous stars throughout the sky for extremely precise GoTo pointing accuracy Frees you from leveling or aligning scope at start of observing session (equatorial mount must still be StarSense works with many modern and nearly-modern Celestron mounts including AVX, CGX, CGX-L, CPC, NexStar

I had to run through the location settings twice before getting it right because it can be a little hard to navigate through the menus on the hand controller. Includes the All-Star Polar Alignment procedure for German equatorial mounts and alt-az mounts with a wedge Connection to wifi works fine - I am in the countryside with little obstructions or other wifi connections around me so once connected stays connected.

Is the StarSense Worth Buying?

No. While StarSense AutoAlign is compatible with almost all Celestron computerized telescopes, it will not work with telescopes from other brands. and you can go through the standard manual alignment process, then slew the telescope to one of thousands of Others have mentioned that they find the 3-line LCD display to be difficult to read. I must admit, the text is rather small, but the StarSense hand control is actually one of my favorite aspects of the device. The device itself is very solid and rigid - and attaches easily to a special attachment plate with two thumb screws and small indents. It just plugs into an aux port and doesn't require separate power. Even the most advanced telescope users will love using StarSense AutoAlign. This affordable accessory replaces the expensive software usually used for advanced mount modeling.

For older NexStar+ or StarSense hand controls with a serial port at the bottom: USB to serial (male type A to female RS-232 | male RS-232 to serial) But if you want to achieve the best accuracy possible, the autoguider dramatically simplifies the polar alignment process. Simply follow the on-screen instructions on the hand control or in the CPWI software, and you can complete a full polar alignment in less than five minutes.Generally, the consensus is yes, this device is well worth the money. The only potential headaches you may experience are in the setup stages, particularly with the location settings and camera calibration process.
