The active ingredients are isopropyl alcohol and isopropyl myristate, and it works by dissolving the lice's protective exoskeleton then dehydrating the lice and eggs – something it claims to do in two hours. Only limited experience is available with Permethrin 5% w/w Cream in children aged 2 months to 23 months. Therefore treatment must be given only under close medical supervision in this age group. The best method to use if you have head lice when you're expecting is nit combing with conditioner because it avoids chemicals. If you have scabies, pay special attention to the areas where mite burrows can commonly occur - the front of your wrists and elbows, beneath your breasts, your armpits, and around the nipples in women.

Leave the cream on for 8-12 hours for scabies, or 12 hours (overnight) for crab lice. After this time, you should remove the treatment from your skin by having a bath or a shower. If you need to wash your hands during the treatment time, remember to re-apply some cream to your hands afterwards. You will need to use the cream a second time, seven days after the first treatment. Apply the cream in the same way as the first time. Using two treatments, a week apart like this, helps to ensure that all the mites/lice are killed. Leave the cream on the skin for 8 to 12 hours (you won't be able to see it) and then thoroughly wash the whole body. For example, you could apply the cream at bedtime and wash it off in the morning.In view of the great variability in body area and skin types, precise dosage recommendations are not possible. Nervous system side effects have included numbness and tingling (1% to 2%). Headache and dizziness have also been reported. Rare occurrences of seizure have been reported; however, an association with the use of permethrin topical (the active ingredient contained in Lyclear) has not been confirmed. Older children should be supervised when applying the cream to ensure that a thorough treatment is administered. For the two applications, an adult is likely to need 60 g of cream (two tubes - one tube for each application), older children will require 30 g cream in total (½ tube for each application) and younger children will require 15 g cream in total (¼ tube for each application). Lyclear is not known to interact with any medicines. However, corticosteroid creams such as hydrocortisone should not be used while using Lyclear dermal cream, as these creams may make the infestation of scabies or crab lice worse. Other medicines containing the same active ingredient: Lyclear creme rinse (for head lice). Clothes, towels and bed linen should be machine-washed at 50°C or above after the first application of treatment. This kills the scabies mites. Keep any items of clothing that cannot be washed, in plastic bags for at least 72 hours to contain the mites until they die. Alternative options to kill any mites on clothes and linen are ironing the item with a hot iron, dry cleaning or putting items in a dryer on the hot cycle for 10-30 minutes. It is not necessary to fumigate living areas or furniture or to treat pets. If you still can't eradicate them, speak to your doctor or pharmacist about what to do next. What do head lice look like?The limited data available on the use of Permethrin 5% w/w Cream in pregnancy which provide no indication of any risk to the foetus. The amount of permethrin absorbed systemically following a whole body application is extremely low. However, some permethrin may pass the placental barrier. The negative mutagenicity tests and the very low mammalian toxicity suggest that there is minimal risk to the foetus following treatment with permethrin. Take care to avoid the eyes. If you find live lice or eggs on the eyelashes they should be removed carefully using tweezers. Don't apply the cream to the eyelashes because it can cause moderate eye irritation. Normally, up to one tube (30g). A few adults may need to use an additional tube for full body coverage but should not use more than 2 tubes (60g in total) at each application. Important: there is a risk of fire when creams and ointments are absorbed by fabrics (such as clothing or bedsheets), making them flammable. A spark or flame can easily ignite the fabric. The risk is highest when large amounts of paraffin-based products are applied and absorb into fabrics. However there is also a risk when non-paraffin products are used. Be aware of this fire hazard when repeatedly using large amounts of any skin product. Do not smoke or go near naked flames.

Dermatological side effects have included pruritus (7%), erythema (1% to 2%), and rash (1% to 2%). Therefore, there is no need to continue to apply cream to the skin until it remains detectable on the surface. Part rather than detangle hair. Part down the middle rather than attempting to detangle the entire head of hair and use lots of conditioner because these types of hair are highly absorbent.Gastrointestinal side effects have included abdominal pain, diarrhea, and nausea and/or vomiting.
