About this deal

It has a free air equivalent of 3400 sq mm, OK for a stove up to just under 12kw (if you include leakage 12 kw is fine) which covers most stoves fitted. We offer three installation kits. These are aimed at professional installers, or at homeowners who are confident of their DIY skills. Also, you are missing the point of my question. I have not said the extractor fans themselves are especially noisy, just that the external covering vents rattle and are noisy. The hole is 100mm, and yet the free air equivalent is 3400 sq mm. This is because the air vent sits on the outside of the wall, and does not reduce the size of the hole through the wall. ii. The amount of air required depends on the size and efficiency of the appliance. Generally open fires need far more air than a stove.

This does affect young children and there some research that it can be one of the causes of childhood asthma." iv. It would be harmful to burn the oxygen from a room without replacing it with fresh air from outside. All I'm asking is whether there is a safe and simple method of stopping the cheap bits of plastic that pass for external covers on these things from rattling like a banshee whenever a squirrel farts in the woods to the side of my house. Since no-one's said that you can't just tape the external vents shut, I'm going to give this a go. Depending on the effect this has on the draft, I may try putting some insulation inside the vent sleeve to help with this. Then I can happily use the windows for my ventilation, knowing that when I want a warm room, I can achieve it and when I want ventilation and air circulation it is completely within my control. The kits contain items which you will need to install a DR21 air vent, but may not have readily available. They do not include the tools (e.g. drills and screwdrivers, mastic gun) you need to do the installation. They also don't include consumables such as screws or plasterboard fixings. If you’re about to have a wood burning stove or other appliance fitted then it’s very likely the installer will need to drill a hole through the wall behind the stove to ensure the product has sufficient ventilation. In this case simply provide them with the DR21 and request that they fit this instead of a louvered vent, they will be able to do this for you no problem! In brief this is caused by the mechanism of combustion. Fuel only burns when given a heat source in oxygen. So, as fuel is burned, oxygen in the area surrounding the fuel source is ”used up” by the mechanism of combustion, this then needs to be replaced. The reaction then pulls more oxygen into the area to replace the ”used up” oxygen – when this ocurrs in appliances, air is pulled in via the vent to do this. So, the rate of airflow in through the vent will automatically meet the demands for the appliance, regardless of the vent style.

If you’ve already got a standard vent fitted – there’s already a hole drilled through the wall for airflow. This makes things really easy. However, we have a problem with them. The external vent cover is quite flimsy plastic and rattles like mad at the slightest breeze. This is quite annoying since the house is otherwise quiet, especially the one in our ensuite bathroom. It also means that we routinely have a cold draft coming in to each room with an extractor. Vent caps work best in conjunction with other draught exclusion measures to keep your home warm and comfortable. Take a look at our other draught excluders range to get an idea of some more cost effective ways to keep your home efficient and cosy, as well as reduce those rising energy bills. It is made of high quality thermoplastic and has been designed by a stove fitting expert. It is also entirely manufactured and produced in the UK following strict manufacturing guidelines. You can be rest assured you’re receiving one of the safest and most effective air vent covers on the market. v. Combustion air can either be fed into the stove with a direct air kit through a ducting to outside or by taking air from the room. If the air is taken from the room then an air vent must be installed in the room in which the appliance is situated.Hi, we had an extension built earlier this year. Per building regulations, we had extractor fans installed in each new bathroom, cloakroom and utility. Each extractor has its own electrical isolator switch and, to be honest, we usually leave them permanently off. Your DR21 vent cap also comes with comprehensive fitting instructions, we have these available for online viewing here: DR21 Fitting Instructions

Your all need some good external grade glue, epoxy resin or something that will remain in place in low and high temperatures. Internal Super Glue will probably fail in winter temperatures.vii. In newer properties and in older properties with a stove being installed with an output of over 5kw then an air vent is required. Remove the standard louvered vent – you may need to unscrew some screws to do this, or break the sealant seal depending on how it has been fitted. If it’s a 100mm louvred vent then the DR21 air just slots over where the old vent cover is, and if it’s the standard plastic vent cover, even the holes are in the same place. Replacing underfloor air vents which will stop a draught blowing under your floor, while allowing enough air for the vital ventilation.

According to research over recent years, childhood asthma is caused by too much ventilation, too little ventilation, too much cleaning/dusting and too little cleaning/dusting. I'd take all of it with a big pinch of salt. And I say this as someone who developed asthma as a child.

Total Employee Count

The vent has the same fixing holes as a standard louvred vent, so retro fitting one takes minutes, and it accepts all the standard tubes, ducting etc. The DR21 acts as a like for like swap – you fit it onto the outside wall in place of the existing vent. There’s no fancy mechanism or any moving parts that could get damaged. Just an incredibly clever design that causes the air to move in a zig zag pattern, slowing the rate of air flow down when the demand for oxygen is low, instantly reducing those terribly cold air leaks. It cannot be used on a kitchen extractor fan and the fat in the air will rapidly clog the interior.
