Note, for a typical British two-up, two-down terraced or semi-detached home, most such mesh systems are overkill. If you struggle to get signal in the furthest corners of your home then there’s a good chance that simply buying a better-quality single router will do the job.

Going from a single router with a smattering of powerline gear to the Deco M5 was a revelation. The network may not be super fast, but it does work, and affords total house coverage seamlessly - with connected devices jumping between the various Deco M5 unitss as needed. Each Deco X20 unit is set up as the host or satellite in the installation process, and each have four internal antennas. As is the case with its competitors, none can be aimed or replaced. Based on Qualcomm’s Networking Pro 400 chipset, the Deco X20 is powered by a 1GHz quad-core processor. It carries 4GB of RAM and 1GB of solid-state storage of its firmware and commands. Able to connect up to 150 devices, the Deco X20 has an AX1800 rating, meaning that it's rated at a peak throughput of 1.8Mbps. You do get more information from the app that runs on your smartphone, but even here it’s generally broad strokes stuff to do with the devices that are connected, and the throughput they are enjoying. It’s simplistic in a way that your average joe can get it up and running and doesn’t require that they fancy themselves as a would-be networking engineer on the side. Individually these would be enough to pique our interest, but together they make for a great combo that is only slightly let down by the top-line throughput. Mesh gets affordable, and takes a small performance hit

It didn't matter if I started my connection close to the router and moved away (green) or if I connected far from the router and moved closer (yellow). That might not sound like much in view of the Asus ZenWiFi AX’s 125.8Mbps performance, but it beat the Netgear Orbi RBK852 (39.1Mbps).
