About this deal

Christina Cole enjoyed being transformed into a 1940s glamour girl - with the help of some teabags. Giles Foster has directed many films for television and the cinema including Bertie and Elizabeth, The Prince And The Pauper, Coming Home, Relative Strangers, The Rector's Wife, Silas Marner, Hotel Du Lac and Northanger Abbey. He also directed several of Alan Bennett's TV monologues. You only have to turn on the telly to see what has happened in the aftermath of Iraq or any of the countries that have been at war over the last few years to see the devastation that people face. But he has no plans to retire. "I love acting as much as when I started and I don't want to retire at all. Parts like Professor Phillips make a lot of sense if you are one of the older crowd. It's good to do a cameo as truthfully as you can and not just let it disappear into nothing." It's very difficult to put yourself in their shoes as an actor. I try and read as much as I can. There are a lot of great books, giving first-hand experience of being a fighter pilot at that time. It's really invaluable and gives you a good insight. I've recently read First Light by Geoffrey Wellum. He joined the RAF at 17 and it charts his time during the war. It's a fantastic book."

One day I asked my mother what she would do if the Germans invaded because we lived on the Suffolk coast. She said she would make them a cup of tea first - so I wasn't too worried about the real enormity of war!" Employing whatever means he has at his disposal to gather information - even enlisting the aid of local children who are collecting salvage - Foyle moves from the small-scale sordid world of burglary and petty criminals into the much larger, and dirtier, world of international finance. Tom has enjoyed a long and successful career on stage and screen. He starred as tough cop Harry Naylor in Between The Lines, and his other many credits include The Manageress, City Central, Liverpool One and Cause of Death on television, and the films Land Girls, A Fish Called Wanda and Morality Play. He plays a detective inspector in the forthcoming new Poirot films. Amanda is used to a variety of period costumes, thanks to her roles in The Forsyte Saga, Daniel Deronda, Anna Karenina and Franco Zefferelli's Jane Eyre. I think the audience are soon ahead of Foyle figuring that Hunter helped invent the gearbox and was cheated by Paige. Horowitz tries to widen the field of suspects such as a passing German spy.Phoebe plays Amanda Reece, a sharp-tongued journalist who is spending the war at Brookfield Court - a 'funk hole' hideaway for the rich. He is a decent soldier on an espionage mission for his country. He's courageous and Foyle treats him with respect. The recognise the decency in each other." Foyle's War: The Complete Collection Blu-ray (Australia)". Blu-ray.com. Archived from the original on 5 January 2018 . Retrieved 15 May 2017. Andrew started acting at the age of seven, alongside his sister Sarah Lee Potts. His credits include the role of Nero in Boudica, Strange, Always and Everyone, Sunburn, Hetty Wainthropp Investigates and The Biz, and he has just filmed the new series of Fat Friends and the feature film Dead Fish.

Series 2 of the ITV programme Foyle's War was first aired in 2003; comprising four episodes, it is set in autumn 1940. Series 2 was broadcast in the United States on PBS on Mystery!, on 18 and 25 July, and 1 and 8 August 2004, as Foyle's War II, [1] and on Netflix as of April 2014. [2] Episodes [ edit ] "Fifty Ships" [ edit ] Writer: Anthony Horowitz I had a scene with Michael when he interrogates me. He doesn't know his son is dating Violet and she speaks before she thinks and digs herself into a huge hole. Michael gave me lots of tips on the language and he was fantastic to work with."

I wore double breasted suits, all browns, light and dark. They were good period colours and a contrast with what Michael was wearing. I love that period and the costume, it's a flattering style for men. I also loved the house, Chilworth Manor near Guildford, where we filmed. They had fantastic gardens and we were there in the heatwave - it was as nice a place as you could wish to be in 85 degrees!" Also in Fifty Ships, the discovery of the German spy, Hans Maier, is based on true accounts of German spies in Britain ill-prepared for the job ahead. The production design, costumes and props are all meticulously crafted to capture the mood and atmosphere of the era. The attention to detail is evident in every frame, with the landscapes, fashions, and decor all adding to the immersive experience. The acting is also top-notch, with the cast delivering nuanced and convincing performances. It's a love story set in a poor mining village in the 30s and I play Evan Powell, with Geraldine James as my wife. The mine is on strike for better conditions and my daughter falls in love with a doctor, so there is a class barrier as well as a financial one." I get the powerful roles, although I'm very different to the people I play. But unless you have these resources inside you and an understanding of ambition and selfishness and their dangers you can't reveal it. The world sees dark eyes and dark hair as evil. That's why I go out of my way to balance the roles. When he gets caught, he has a fairly flimsy story about being a Dutchman. I gave him a Dutch accent to begin with, but when he knows the game is up, he reverts to his own German accent. It was good fun to do, but I had to play down the Dutch accent so as not to give it a comedic touch. The greatest irony, which is not explored or recognized by the episode, is that it is the testimony of the German spy that gives Foyle the key evidence he needs to realize that this vital American is the murderer. That German spy thus unexpectedly almost gave Hitler the greatest assistance any one human being could possibly have given to Hitler's effort to defeat Britain -- because it was that German, by bringing about the discrediting of the strongly pro-British American, who could have destroyed the American-British alliance from even forming. And Foyle himself, upstanding, honorable Foyle, would have become the means whereby Hitler would accomplish that grand strategic goal. It is similar to the British Colonel in "Bridge Over The River Kwai," who is so focused on his role of keeping his men in good military form, that he overlooks that his efforts will aid the enemy in the broader strategic situation. The mysterious British aide (really an high-level military intelligence agent) is on the scene, however, and prevents this from happening.
