About this deal

Usually, GW has waited until the codex has actually been released to reveal what the Combat Patrol will be. We’re often left guessing whether or not the picture in the codex is the actual box but this time, we don’t have to wait!

The World Eaters Lord on Juggernaut can run around on his own, enjoying a 10″ movement speed. He can also join units of Eightbound, Exalted Eightbound, and Khorne Berzerkers as a leader. His ‘Aggressive Advance’ grants his bodyguard re-rolls on Advance rolls, Charge rolls, and Blood Surge rolls, while he’ll gain the benefit of any movement abilities his unit might have. They operate as an ‘elite’ army in Warhammer 40k, meaning they tend to field fewer miniatures than their opponents for the same budget of points, but each model can hope to deal out more punishment to the enemy before it gets blown away. Warhammer 40K is usually played with 2,000 points, but the Warhammer 40K Combat Patrol boxes make the game far more accessible notwithstanding some minor balance complaints. Even those qualms about balance have been ironed out in the 10 th edition of the game. The Thousand Sons march to war under the auspices of an Infernal Master, his five Scarab Occult Terminator bodyguards, and more Tzaangors than you can shake a force stave at (20!). While the Tzaangors swarm across the battlefield claiming objectives, the Terminators continue their implacable advance, gunning down foes with inferno combi-bolters and cutting down anyone who gets too close with their khopesh blades. Grey Knights Combat Patrol

Borrowed Units. Chaos Space Marine armies can run Plague Marines, Rubric Marines, and Berzerkers, and these each have some interesting play in the army. The World Eaters were the principle antagonist of the little-known first war for Armageddon. Angron led his sons in an apocalyptic invasion of the vital Imperial industrial world, bringing the world to the verge of ruin before daemon primarch was banished to the warp by the elite daemon hunters of the Grey Knights. After one of your units destroys and enemy unit in the fight phase, make a Blessings of Khorne roll and activate a Blessing – it doesn’t count towards the maximum number of activated Blessings. Well, we can drop 1 Bloodmaster and save 90 points. That’s going to free us up to turn our Bloodthirster into an Exalted version. We’re going with the 40 point option because we have the points now. That gives us another 50 points to play with (well, 60 technically). Why not take a Skull Altar?

The World Eaters army rule is Blessings of Khorne, which provides you with one or two randomly selected, hyper-violent buffs each battle round. Here’s how it works. The next three armies are all built around Start Collecting! boxes, which are all a great way to start any new force. Many of them contain enough models for you to build a Combat Patrol force right away. Genestealer Cults No self-respecting Chaos Space Marines force is complete without at least one squad of Legionaries. These are the dark mirrors of loyalist Tactical Squads, with access to a variety of wargear and a host of unique weapons that make them more flexible – and violent – than uniform Intercessor Squads.*Let’s jump into some particular goals you might have, and how I’d recommend building in the next section. This book used to have crucial rules for the Chaos Legions, but as of the release of the Codex, it’s no longer valid. You can basically skip or ignore it for the purposes of Chaos Space Marines. The one set of rules in it that might still be legal however are the rules for Be’lakor and his army of renown, but it’s likely those rules will no longer be valid after the release of Codex: Chaos Daemons. The result? Tense, involved, but straightforward games that can be played in less than an hour.* There’s still plenty of nuance for Warhammer 40,000 experts to enjoy – swapping out Enhancements and Secondary Objectives to mix up their playstyle, and mastering each faction’s Combat Patrol in turn, without having to build up a full Incursion or Strike Force-sized army. After one of your units is destroyed within range of an objective marker you control, you retain control of that marker even when you have no models contesting it, until your opponent claims it. This week’s Citadel Colour Masterclass is all about the basics of freehanding. If you’ve ever wanted to dip your toe** into this advanced technique, this is the show you need to watch.
