The third aim, a somewhat optimistic one, was the hope that the challenge might inspire some new codebreaking technique. The Swedish team did, in fact, rewrite the number field sieve algorithm so that it could operate on relatively ordinary computers, demonstrating that it is not necessary to use a supercomputer to factor a huge number. Future with quantum computing - explanation is crystal clear to help someone who is new to quantum mechanics. Various ciphers and their detailed techniques - Monoalphabetic, Caesar shift, Vigenere, Pigpen, Playfair, EDLSs, Morse Code, Beale Cipher… Uncovered in 1798, the Rosetta Stone bore a similar message in three unique dialects: Greek, Demotic and in hieroglyphics that had never been seen. The English semantic wonder Thomas Young seized the chance to translate the pictographs. Later sections cover the development of public-key cryptography. Some of this material is based on interviews with participants, including persons who worked in secret at GCHQ.

Another reflection of the widespread interest was shown at a cryptography seminar in Oxford, where Cipher Challengers from Britain, America, Sweden, Switzerland and Norway arranged to meet up. Whenever I gave talks, both in Britain and abroad, I would meet Cipher Challengers from all walks of life and of all ages – from novices and schoolchildren to mathematicians and professional cryptographers. There was even a Fields Medallist who became involved. The Code Book: The Science of Secrecy from Ancient Egypt to Quantum Cryptography is a book by Simon Singh, published in 1999 by Fourth Estate and Doubleday. These keys are particularly sheltered because there’s no basis, broadly useful calculation for deciding a number’s prime variables; it in this manner will, in general, be an exceedingly relentless venture. For example, while it is anything but an issue to do this math on little items like 21, whose prime components are 3 and 7, higher numbers mean substantially more work.

The methods used are described in detail, which is sometimes too advanced for beginners, and because of this, it´s sometimes advisable to skim the purely theoretical descriptions as in my case (laziness and layman). The military historical and political aspects are anyway much more interesting for the philistines of applied science. As Neil Bohr said - "Anyone who can contemplate quantum mechanics without getting dizzy hasn’t understood it." Singh’s power of explaining complex ideas is as dazzling as ever, and as an amusing extra stunt the book contains a cipher challenge…The Code Book will fascinate anyone who, like me, used to treasure their Secret Agent Pen as a child, as well as devotees of spy thrillers, crossword enthusiasts, and paranoiacs of all persuasions.” My only regret is that this great book has come far too late. If only someone had given it to me when I was 10, my secret plans for world playground domination might never have been foiled. Bah. The progress of the Cipher Challenge is charted on the leaderboardand is briefly documented in the updates there, so I will not go through this again. However, I will say that I was initially worried that I had made the competition too easy, because the first four stages fell so rapidly. I was relieved to see that stage 5 stopped the rush for a while, but I was worried once again when Andrew Plater rattled his way through to stage 8.

However, there’s consistently opportunity to get better, and in 1977, three researchers at MIT made the RSA cipher, made much increasingly secure through its utilization of additional safe keys dependent on the results of prime numbers. রের সংখ্যায় প্রেমিকা বেচারি সোজা-সাপ্টা ইংরেজিতে লিখে বসেন ,"Dear Charlie, write no more.Our cipher is discovered." ! However, a superior technique for conveying keys was all the while missing. To this end, three cryptographers, Whitfield Diffie, Martin Hellman, and Ralph Merkle, united to discover a route for individuals to safely trade encoded messages over enormous separations. Bazeries’ method of deciphering the Great Cipher of Louis XIV by analyzing by syllable frequency rather than letter.

That being said, this is a very informative book about the past, present and future of cryptography. Singh takes us on a journey from ancient times where simple communications and hence simple codes sufficed, through a series of unfortunate events that resulted in the execution of Mary, Queen of Scots,to a time in the future when quantum cryptography might prevail. My favorite part is when he talks about the decipherment of Linear B (which led me to another amazing book of the same name), an ancient language discovered in the remains of a palace in Crete. Oh, and he also makes the Second World War seem interesting in an entirely differently way. When I awoke from my coma, I realized: 1) sesquipedalian verbiage needs must be read while fresh and hale, 2) I don't care as much as I thought I would, 3) hot Spring afternoon sunshine feels good.
