As well as the Powder, the new SiS Beta Fuel range contains two different types of energy gels. Fructose has a different transporter than glucose, a dual source formulation allows for greater carbohydrate delivery to our muscles during exercise, therefore increasing how much carbohydrate we can use. I'll start with the nutrition issues that I was having. Put simply, I was struggling to get nutrition onboard in enough volume to sustain the rate that I burn it during a race. Take, for example, one early-season E12 race. The 125km race lasted 3 hours and in that time I burned 2,243 calories. My usual nutrition strategy of two 500ml bottles (189kCal each) of SIS Go Energy and around five High5 Energy Gels (91kCal each) left a deficit not just in calories but also in carbohydrate. This intake gave me 209g of carbs. This would give a total of 240 grams of carbohydrate over the standard distance triathlon. This provides a varied nutrition solution in different formats, flavours and textures whilst maintaining the quality of your nutrition so you can train or race at the best of your ability. Due to being a very high carbohydrate formula (80g), I built up my use of the Beta Fuel powder gradually. I started off splitting one sachet between two bottles on my bike, to the point where come race day, I was having the full recommended amount of 1 sachet per bottle. This gave me 160g of carbohydrate just in my bottles without even having to consider other nutrition sources yet!
