Mr Hobby Leveling Thinner, this stuff is liquid gold! but its expensive so I do use it frugally and really don't feel the need to use it all that often but if the final coat requires some assistance in settling down this is the thinner to use. If you want to bond the various layers of paint already sprayed then leveling thinner will melt in somewhat creating a very nice finnish.

After stopping to wash my sprues to test out how the paint would go down I discovered that it was a waste of time, I've never had a problem. The only time I'll use alcohol to wipe down is if I've manhandled the model excessively. I do like to use Mr Hobby surface primer but I don't use it as a preparation paint although its very good for that but rather as a technique to fix small imperfections in the plastic or my assembly.

High Quality: Tamiya is known for producing high-quality model kits that are accurate, detailed, and well-designed. I also clean my airbrush between colours, ie taking it apart and ensuring that the needle is clean and free of any paint build up. Quite a few variations in methodology here as is to be expected. Any issues with airbrushing are very simply based on just a few variables, 1 paint thining ratio, 2 air pressure and ambient temperature. I think my biggest discovery is not to follow any particular recipe. Now I only use Mr Color paints and with these I have used all sorts of thinners and they all work but with major caveat. If you don't adjust air pressure accordingly then your going to run into strife. Recently, this week, I've started using AK Xtreme "metallics", I've not needed to thin these but being non-acrylic, I've no idea if their lacquer or enamels.
My Number 1 rule for airbrushing- DON'T OVERTHINK IT! It's paint, art if you will, not a chemistry experiment. Work out what works FOR YOU and roll with that - if you're one of those people who need 'exact', you may need to learn to chill a bit and just play. I've only used Gunze thinner (Mr. Color Leveling for the record) with Tamiya and Gunze acrylics, which I understand are acrylic lacquers. Works beautifully for me, as do cellulose/lacquer thinners from the DIY store. X-20A and isopropanol also work well.
