A relatively common lens aberration is axial (longitudinal, bokeh) CA, which causes non-coinciding focal planes of the various wavelengths of light, or more simply, different colors of light are focused to different depths. Just grab the focus ring anytime for instant manual-focus override —but only if you've set your camera to DMF focus mode. Extension tubes are hollow lens barrels that shift a lens farther from the camera, which permits shorter focusing distances at the expense of long-distance focusing. On my a7 I see minor color shift, I guess on the more problematic a7r it could sometimes be a problem. The a7s and a7rii will most likely show even less color shift than the a7.

With EVFs being prevalent in Sony's lineup, the viewfinder image is being read from the imaging sensor and that is stabilized.If this 1,200×900 pixel crop is about 12" (30cm) wide on your screen, then the complete image printed at this same extreme magnification would be about 53 × 80" (1.35 × 2 meters). The focus ring isn't connected to anything; it's just an encoder which hopefully will be interpreted properly by your camera to drive the electronic focus motors.
This is a very short design that invites leaving the hood in place vs. storing reversed on the lens — this hood does not mount reversed. Above: Now for the rendering of bokeh balls from close range, starting with the Sony 40 2.5 near to its closest focusing distance. From this distance it’s certainly possible to generate some reasonable bokeh balls, but unsurprisingly for a lens of this size and price, there’s visible outlining around their edges and concentric onion-ringing patterns within. With the lens closed to f4 or smaller, the seven-bladed diaphragm system also becomes visible with blobs taking on a seven-sided shape. Optics: The Sony FE 35mm f2.8 ZA has 7 elements in 5 groups (including three aspherical elements). The Sony FE 35mm f1.4 ZA has 12/8 elements/groups, the Zeiss Batis 9/8, and the Samyang 7/6. [+] One nice touch is that all the markings are engraved and filled with paint. Not just printed on the hull like with the FE 2/28. Foreground bokeh is very smooth as well. Price, Value, Wrap Up
Price: The lens currently sells for 700 EUR (incl. 19% VAT) / 750 USD. This is clearly cheaper than the Sony FE 35mm f1.4 ZA at 1500 EUR / 1500 USD or the Zeiss Batis at 1300 EUR/USD. But the Samyang is much cheaper still at only 250 EUR / 270 USD. [0]
Although I think overall this lens is a stellar performer, there are some strange things I want to mention. Some weird 'dots' can be visible when the sun is in the frame. Also, sometimes the lens seems to invoke colored concentric rings. I'm not sure if it's the lens or the lens-sensor combination that causes these defects. There is a moderate (normal) change in subject size as full extent focus adjustments are made with this lens.This lens has a narrow aperture for its class and how anxious we are to use that aperture for our important images will rely on the image quality delivered by this lens at that aperture. It's not a fast lens, but at f/2.8 it produces photos that are plenty sharp and contrasty. I use this lens on the A7R full frame camera. There is some vignetting going on but I did not find any notable CA. The extreme corners are a little soft, eve stopped down to f/5.6. As far as I can tell this lens focusses fast, silent and accurate. Closing the aperture a little improves the image quality. The bokeh is fairly good for a f/2.8 35mm.
