About this deal

Pencil: In olden days, twas hard, amie, to stay sharp as I could be. (Hops into pencil sharpener that Pad cranks) There is no real villain, except perhaps the stories that rise from ignorance, and can only be combated with understanding and enlightenment. As confirmed through the Library of Congress, this episode is notably the first to be produced. As a result, there are noticeable differences between this episode and other episodes.

Mop gets done mopping a waxy floor, which she calls "Wax and Shine" as she marvels at her "masterpiece". Mr. String comes down from the ceiling and worries about the slippery floor and that someone could fall and never get up. Just then, The Shoe Family comes stomping down the hallway to go to the circus, which causes Mr. String to worry that if they slip, they won't get to the circus, which would ultimately result in the tent filling up with uneaten food and fall down. Mr. String tries to warn them, but they don't listen and end up falling anyway. The novel is set in the 1930s and St John Fox is a novelist whose novels usually end in the main female character dying horribly. In the trenches in the first war he dreamt up a muse, Mary Foxe. This muse has begun to take substance and has begun to critique his writing and tries to push him into writing a different way. Then there is Fox’s longsuffering wife Daphne. Fox has his approach to her thought out; Mr. String finds a fishbowl with a Moorish Idol inside. He transforms into a fish resembling the one in the fishbowl and copies everything it does. When the fish jumps out of the bowl, Mr. String tries to copy it but ends up swishing himself around. He laughs as the segment ends.Bob, Mr. String, Mary Jane, Little Cup, and Lacey are at the slide saying that they're "not it," and Plush comes sliding down, and he ends up being "it". Mr. String explains to Plush that they're playing hide and seek, but Plush doesn't know how to count, so he tells Plush to cover his eyes and that he will count for him. But Plush gets called out for peeking, and Mr. String explains that peeking ruins the game, which will make it stop, and everyone will stand still and their feet will get moldy. Plush understands, so he wraps his ears around his eyes, and String counts as the four others go hide. After he counts and tells Plush to go and tap someone to find them, Plush looks around and taps Mr. String, and he makes an annoyed face. More enter. The tent starts to shake and a girl exits in a swimming suit, then another in a swimming suit and umbrella, then one in their floatie, and one dressed up with maracas. More come out, then they appear alongside the water) To be 100% honest, my main reaction to the book was “WTF??” I found myself thinking this over and over again throughout the book. And when I got to the very end, I remember thinking to myself: “Your entire review should just be WTF?!” As a service to you, I’m struggling to provide a bit more information. Mrs. Shoe: Watch us, short short short. Step step, and cha cha cha! Long, long, ago, we played the music low, and away we would go to do the cha cha cha!

I’d trust her to write an authentic voice from any geographical location, any time frame, any political situation, any gender, any species. The camera pans up to a dripping ice cream cone, and Mop looks around and moaning. Pan to Pad and Pencil on the table, and to Plush who slides down on the floor. Then it pans up to a fan with Mr. String blowing against it) Weeeeeheeee! Slippery, slippery, look at me I'm slip-p-p-p-pery! (He bumps on bumpy edges and skates around the drain) I wanna do that again!

What was the Challenge / Background of the Campaign?

Oyeyemi herself said in an interview with BookForum that she considers Mr Fox one of her 'games'. In her own words she said she thinks these books are 'useless and not contributing anything', but because of that 'desire to be happy and desire to play', they feel more like her own and they are the ones she loves most. I think Oyeyemi's passion for writing this book definitely shines through, and it contributed to a brilliant reading experience for this reader! The first two countries are China and Canada, with more to be launched later in the year. By exploring them the kids will encounter carp ponds and snowmen, dodge giant pandas and whales and collect the hiding shy cows. In this segment, kids are hitting a pinata high in a tree. After many tries, the kids crowd around to get the piles of candy. Singers: Roly poly, roly poly, down the hill, roly poly, roly poly, can't keep still! (Pencil rolls down as well) The world is spinning, can't stop grinning, roly poly, roly poly, what a thrill!

As Mary Foxe, the muse becomes ever more real, she also becomes more independent and strikes up a friendship with Daphne, encouraging Daphne to try writing. The tables are gradually turning and Oyeyemi in an interview about her book recalls Muriel Spark’s quote;String can transform and turn himself into all kinds of different things, even some of the characters. However, it seems that he has trouble transforming into circular objects, such as a ring. In Don't Bump Into That, it is shown he has a passion for art, as the short takes place in what might be his potential art studio, where he is painting a picture of Mop similarly to the style of Andy Warhol. Hey, she says, you weren't expecting that, were you? And she takes us by the wrist and yanks us into the narrative. We drag our heels a little at first and complain that we don’t want it to be like that, we simply want to read by the rules. Can't you keep the roles clear, we protest - the reader’s role, the writer’s role, the narrator’s role, the other characters’ roles, none of this mixing and mingling, thank you very much. What patches the fabric then? Stories, like My Daughter the Racist, shining with the coherence of parable. This one, which I adore, and will read again and again, reminded me of The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas Plush skates across a booth Bob is in, wearing a hat and with a bag of popcorn. Bob giggles. Plush skates some more)
