About this deal

Superlative cushioning and grip are provided by 130mm-diameter, 58mm-width lug pattern pin spike tires on flashy gold color plated wheels.

The steering servo is mounted to the chassis and the speed controller is attached with the included double sided tape. Then its time to install the motor and the body mounts. As you can see the Monster Beetle has some side mounts that have to be fitted to hold the great looking shell. Body depicts a customized Beetle with gaping fenders, triple auxiliary lights and a shortened rear end.

Next up it's time to fit the steering servo and esc. The kit included esc is the excellent TBLE-02s. It is able to run the included brushed motor, and importantly it can also run a sensored brushless motor if you want to add more speed. The steel suspension stays are next. These attach to the frame and through the threaded steel bars. This design ensures that the front mounts will be able to take quite a lot of load before breaking, a good idea for something that screams out to be taken out and bashed.

The injection-moulded plastic body accurately captures the classic Tamiya Monster Beetle shape and style. The rugged ABS space-frame chassis fromthe original model (58060) has remained. The chassis uses a double-wishbone front with trailing arm rear suspension setups that work in tandum with the CVA oil dampers. Be all of this as it may, though, this car maintains its modern collectability due to its durable design and unique, scale look.

Tip - When you build your drive shaft, make sure that the pin is seated perfectly and does not pop out of any of the sides. This will make your drive shaft vibrate and ultimately break. It is a very easy thing to overlook if you have not made them before.

I rescued the poor thing from the bushes and straight away noticed the problem. On the right side of the gearbox, the round end of the swing shaft had popped right out of its place in the (short) gearbox joint. Its almost as if the right hand side Swing shaft is too short?? This gear-driven 4WD chassis is based around a lightweight and tough monocoque frame, with power provided by the centrally-positioned motor. Reduction gears on each axle slow drive shaft rotation for immense traction, great ground clearance, and the ability to take on tough off-road terrain. The gearbox is sealed to protect from dust and debris, and integrated into the frame; built-in differential gears provide superb traction and durability with the use of included diff putty. 4-wheel double wishbone suspension utilizes friction dampers, while a 2-piece tie rod steering setup with the servo on the left gives excellent response. Yellow wheels are fitted with 115mm diameter hybrid pin spike/lug pattern tires for superior cushioning and grip. The chassis utilizes a ‘square’ setup with similar tread and wheelbase lengths. gear ratio (with the kit-standard 18T pinion gear) gives great drive. The model is also compatible with 20T pinion gears (for a 33.61:1 gear ratio). The Monster Beetle is a nearly 30 year old design and that means that the gearbox is not going to be as advanced as modern RC cars. You still have a differential, however it was designed before crazy brushless motors were around, so you will have to consider that when upgrading your motor. The steering arms are connected to the front axles. These are chunky affairs with two large plastic parts bolted together with 4 large screws to provide a rugged C-Hub (Unlike the TRF419 ones).
