About this deal

The Eurasian Lynx entered North America across the Bering Strait Land Bridge about 2.5 million years ago.

Hasegawa, Y. [in Japanese]; Kaneko, H.; Tachibana, M.; Tanaka, G. (2011). 日本における後期更新世~前期完新世産のオオヤマネコ Lynxについて[A study of the extinct Japanese Lynx from the Late Pleistocene to the Early Holocene] (PDF). Bulletin of Gunma Museum of Natural History (in Japanese and English). 15: 43–80. ISSN 1342-4092. The Iberian lynx is the most threatened of these cat species. In 2004, only 100 animals lived in southern Spain. Thanks to conservation efforts by the Spanish government, they have somewhat recovered. As of 2014, over 300 animals were found in the same area. There’s an unsourced claim going around that a lynx can see a mouse 76m (250ft) away. However, when tested, researchers concluded that they have more or less the same visual acuity as a house cat, and far less than a human, so it’s unlikely to be true. The size and weight of the animal depend on the species. The Eurasian lynx is the largest with males weighing between 40 and 66 pounds. It stands roughly 27 inches at the shoulder. The Canada lynx weighs between 18 and 31 pounds and stands between 19 and 22 inches at the shoulder. The Iberian lynx weighs 28 pounds for males and 20 pounds for females. Height varies between 23 and 27 inches at the shoulder. The bobcat weighs between 16 and 30 pounds and stands between 20 and 24 inches at the shoulder. The Canada lynx mainly lives in Canada and Alaska but is also found in some northern US states like Washington, Montana, and Maine. Its habitat is primarily boreal forests, which are also known as snow forests and consist largely of coniferous trees.

In 2004, there were thought to be around 100 Iberian lynx in southern Spain and due to efforts from both the Spanish government, and organisations such as WWF, the population is thought to have tripled to over 300 now. These are agile, powerful predators who play a very significant role in their ecosystems. They’re well adapted for their rugged terrain, and they seem to do really well for themselves when humans stop trying to kill them. Regardless, the Lynx has keen hearing and uses it to sneak up on prey it can’t even see. 7. They have phenomenal agilityMost states in the United States declare that it is illegal to own any species of lynx. However, Alabama, Nevada, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Wisconsin allow bobcats to be kept as pets. The lynx is more common in northern Europe, especially in Norway, Sweden, Estonia, Finland, and the northern parts of Russia. The Swedish population is estimated to be 1200–1500 individuals, spread all over the country, but more common in middle Sweden and in the mountain range. The lynx population in Finland was 1900–2100 individuals in 2008, and the numbers have been increasing every year since 1992. The lynx population in Finland is estimated currently to be larger than ever before. [33] Lynx in Britain were wiped out in the 17th century, but there have been calls to reintroduce them to curb the numbers of deer. [34]

There are four species of lynx. The Eurasian and Iberian lynx are found in Western Europe and Central Asia, and were once thought to be the same species despite the smaller size of the Iberian lynx. The other two species—Canada lynx and bobcats—live in North America. Bobcats, or Lynx rufus, got their name from their short—or bobbed—tail. But even experts can sometimes struggle to tell them apart from the other species. Appearance The different species of lynxes also weigh different amounts, with the lightest being bobcats, which usually weigh between 7 and 15 kilograms. The Iberian lynx weighs between 10 and 15 kilograms, and the Canada lynx can weigh anywhere between 8 and 17.3 kilograms. The heaviest species is the Eurasian lynx, whose lightest individuals weigh as much as the heaviest Canada lynxes. The weight range for a full-grown adult Eurasian lynx is between 18 and 36 kilograms. Is a lynx a cat or a tiger? The oldest lynx remains, approximately four million years old, were found in Africa. The ancestor of the four lynx species is believed to be Lynx issiodorensis, which was distributed all over the northern hemisphere. The Eurasian Lynx entered North America across the Bering Strait Land Bridge about 2.5 million years ago. The different lynx species evolved to suite their environments – resulting in the four species that exist today. a b Cahalane, Victor H (March 1, 2005). Meeting the Mammals. Players assume the role of a blue-collar contractor working on behalf of LYNX as a spaceship salvager, or “cutter,” harvesting derelict cruisers and mammoth starships scavenged from the far corners of the galaxy, in exchange for safe passage off-world. What happened to those ships before you got there? Well, that’s questionable and maybe legally murky. But salvage laws aren’t, and there’s money to be made.
