About this deal

It took a while to get my head around all the bits that were in the box – some of the extra attachments didn’t come with any instructions, so I had to work out what they were for. However, I soon worked it out.

The Fraupow Hands-Free Breast Pump allows busy mums to pump milk whilst getting on with all the other stuff they need to do. It is lightweight, wire-free and fits inside your bra, and was created to support Mums. In a closed system pump, the milk can’t get into the tubing. This means that the pump is easier to keep clean, can be used for future children and can even be sold or passed on when you’re done with it. Breast pump manufacturers often use the terms “open” and “closed” systems. But what does this actually mean? Put simply, it refers to whether or not the pump includes a barrier between the breast pump and expressed milk, which is usually found between the tubing and the motor, or between the breast-shield connector and the tubing. How easy it is to clean: If you plan to use your breast pump everyday, closed system breast pumps are generally easier to clean than open system pumps. Also think about whether you'll be using a steriliser and dishwasher for cleaning. Are the breast pump parts dishwasher-safe? Wearable breast pumps are a revelation!’ says Lesley Bland, registered midwife at My Expert Midwife. ‘Unlike traditional breast pumps, wearable ones are cord-free, rechargeable, and fit discreetly inside the bra allowing new mums to multitask like never before.’

8. Quietest wearable breast pump: Elvie Pump Single Wearable Electric Breast Pump

When choosing the right wearable breast pump for your lifestyle and needs, there are a few factors to consider before you buy: Frozen breast milk can last up to six months, but needs to be defrosted properly – ideally, leave it in the fridge to defrost thoroughly, or run it under warm water if you’re in a rush. It should never be defrosted in the microwave, nor refrozen once thawed; in this case it must be used within 12 hours. How do I clean my pump? I would 100% recommend this product and company! I’ve really enjoyed using the product and will definitely use it again in the future if I have any more children.

Engorged breast relief: Sore and engorged breasts can be a common problem for many new mums. 'Breast pumping will help express excess milk and help reduce associated discomfort,' says Eilis. The flange, also known as the breast shield (the bit that’s attached to the funnel), goes over your nipple Open system pumps allow the milk to enter the tubing. This means that they’ll need to be cleaned and dried carefully to ward off any mould or bacteria. How to clean a breast pump Flange size options: Opt for pumps that offer different flange sizes to ensure a comfortable fit for your breast shape and size. Some pumps come with more than one flange size, whilst others indicate that you need to buy them separately. Regardless, it’s important to find the right size flange for you, as this will affect your comfort level as well as how much milk you get to extract. Hygiene features: Look for pumps with closed systems that prevent milk from entering the tubing, ensuring hygiene and ease of cleaning. The good news is that all the pumps on our list have closed systems except for the Haakaa which is a manual wearable pump.

With just five main washable parts, the built of the pump makes it extremely easy to put together and take apart for washing. The LED screen makes the pump feel a little bit big when wearing, however the screen needs to be big enough to use so this isn't a major concern. To help you make an informed decision, we rigorously test breast pumps on an ongoing basis. Our parent testers try out the pumps at home with their own children, in real-life conditions. We score each model based on a number of factors including video quality, ease of set-up, connection and design. We also consulted experts from La Leche League and spend hours combing the Mumsnet forums to see which breast pumps are recommended as best buys and which come with words of warning according to the UK's biggest network of parents. Regarding the issue you encountered with the pump, our technical department conducted a thorough evaluation upon its return. They found no faults with the pump itself. However, it is important to note that the pump was received in an unsatisfactory condition with milk residue. This compromised the ability to perform accurate diagnostic testing.

Our pump uses advanced air-pressure pulse technology that expresses milk but avoids irritation and discomfort allowing you an efficient and comfortable pump every time. The USB rechargeable battery ensures up to 100 minutes pumping after a full charge. It's cordless and ridiculously portable. An electric pump is designed for women who have an established milk supply. They come in single and double models and work by themselves, which can be a huge time-saver for mums who regularly express. 4. Battery-operated and rechargeable breast pumps New mamas take note! If you breastfeed your baby, you will need (and deserve!) a break from making milk for your mini-me every once in a while. So, if you're preparing to return to work, planning a night out with the girls, or you're keen to share the load with your co-parent, investing in a breast pump is essential kit during the early days. Transparency is really important to us and that's why we're always upfront about how we choose the products we recommend. We won't always recommend the cheapest products, or the ones with the most extra features. We write about products that we feel offer the best value to most parents – the ones we'd recommend to our own friends and family. I love my Momcozy S12 Pro. I’ve been using this pump for about two months now and I wish I found it sooner; it does not disappoint! It’s perfect for at work or on-the-go pumping and gets the job done.” (Recommended by Mumsnet user, MargotP18)

Do I want the convenience and flexibility of a wearable design or the capacity of a traditional pump? The Fraupow Wearable Electric Pump has 4 modes and is loaded with features that ensure it keeps up with or beats other pumps, at less than half the price of the leading competition. The Fraupow Hands-Free Breast Pump fits with the other products in Fraupow's breastfeeding support system. Overall, the Fraupow Wearable Breast Pump is easy to use, and even with the different settings and LED screen it's easy to adjust the pump to suit you. The downsides of this device are that it can be difficult to tell how much milk you’re expressing as a result of the cups’ design; but they do hold up to 5 oz/150 ml of capacity. In addition, the powerful suction can make the breasts quite sore. Overall, though, this is a thoughtfully designed breast pump, which will no doubt take the stress out of any busy, breastfeeding mum’s life.

Sore and engorged breasts can be a common problem for many new mums. 'Having a pump available to express excess milk can be a lifesaver,' says Bland. 'However, caution should be taken not to overstimulate the breasts as they may misinterpret the signals as increased demand and therefore produce even more milk.' Co-parenting They also cost less than an electric pump, so if you aren’t expressing regularly or aren’t completely sure that you want to express, then it may be better to go for a manual option first. Boost milk supply: If you're keen to increase your milk supply, expressing actually helps. 'Emptying your breasts frequently increases milk production, whereas leaving milk in the breast for longer periods slows down your milk production,' explains Eilis. To draw up our carefully selected recommendations list, we scored each breast pump out of 45 based on eight main categories:

It's comfortable, simple to use and promises to pump 18% more milk than other brands.
