About this deal

If you’re serious about your photography, and intend to produce a lot of very large, extremely high quality photo prints, then the P700 will serve you well, but if you are a more price conscious user, or you are not printing regularly, then a cheaper model, like the Epson Expression Photo HD XP-15000, would suit you better.

The Epson SureColor SC-P700 is the professional photo printer that prints up to A3+ size and is ideal for photographers. The Epson SureColor P700 can claim credit for being the first A3+ photo printer to introduce a maintenance box, along with other welcome features in a handsome unit that is capable of producing top quality prints. When looking at the Canon Pro 300 vs Epson P700, which has comparable high print quality, the main difference you will see will be in your wallet, as the Pro 300 is so much more economical in terms of ink usage, while delivering almost exactly the same level of vibrant, powerful colors.

The scanner is fairly standard for printers in this price range, with no automatic document feeder or duplex mode, and the printer’s display screen is also pretty small, but remains functional and easy to use. It’s pretty similar to the HP Envy 6055 in this respect. Take care with the clear plastic top of the printer – the plastic is easy to scratch. There is blue tape inside as well.

That’s 937 ppi (pixels per inch). Should I rescale the image before printing to a more reasonable number? High-end printers use International Color Consortium (ICC) profiles that describe specific paper types and their characteristics to determine how to mix and apply ink. Each premium paper type and its properties—such as whether it has a glossy or matte finish, its absorption rate, drying speed, and other appearance variables—are defined in the paper's ICC profile. Canon's Media Configuration Tool makes it easy to add and manage the various media types and their ICC profiles on your computer. Canon's Media Configuration Tool helps manage paper types and ICC profiles. Finding the best photo printer can be a minefield of unanswered questions, from the quality of the photo print, to how long the printer’s ink lasts. In the past, I’ve struggled to find really solid dedicated photo printers that will stand the test of time, printing high quality photos without costing a fortune in ink.If you wanted to know what is the best Epson photo printer, then you have found it in the Expression XP-15000. The price is relatively low for such a high quality device, that gives you excellent photo quality and fantastic color accuracy, almost at a professional level. Epson Print Layout is a free program for both computer and mobile devices that is not only a stand-alone print organizer, but can also be used as an add-on to Photoshop via File>Automate. All settings for print making can be controlled from just one panel. It is an easy progam to work with and is well supported by YouTube tutorials. In addition to writing hundreds of articles for PCMag, over the years he also wrote for many other computer and business publications, among them Computer Shopper, Digital Trends, MacUser, PC World, The Wirecutter, and Windows Magazine. He also served as the Printers and Scanners Expert at About.com. All digital devices and media that display, reproduce, input, or output color have the ingredients of an ICC profile. The ICC profile acts as a set of properties or characteristics that defines how, in this case, a specific paper type influences how colors appear. High-end printers like the P700 use a paper's ICC profile to determine how to mix and apply ink.

I’m told that the full range of profiles has been delayed as a result of the current pandemic. Epson Media Installer The Epson Media Installer software is an optional software install, which can be used to acquire media settings and profiles. It’s meant to be a route for all paper suppliers to make profiles/media settings available for the P700. At the moment, there is no ‘user’ access to the tools for doing this. It’s discussed in more detail in the P900 review. The example above is some A3+ poster board – you do not want this hitting the wall as it comes out. In the P700 the violet/blue ink gives a bit of a boost in this gamut comparison between profiles for a fine art paper on the P600 and P700. The Pro-300 beats the Pro-1000, in my opinion, based on two factors: the much lower price, and much lower official ink replacement cost. The Pro-300 is essentially a home version of the Pro-1000, designed to be used intermittently, rather than everyday. It takes up a relatively small amount of desk space for a professional photo printer, and far less than the Pro-1000.”The P700 measures 16.5 by 20.8 by 32.1 inches (HWD) with its trays extended for printing, and it weighs 35.3 pounds. It's less than half that tall and long with its trays closed. That's a 30 percent smaller footprint than the P600. The P700 can print on cut sheets of paper ranging in size from 4 by 6 inches up to 13 by 19 inches. It also supports up to 13-inch premium paper rolls with a 2-inch core. Epson makes a slew of premium papers in cut sizes and rolls for use with its printers, as do Canon and HP. In addition to premium photo paper in sizes up to 13 by 19 inches and beyond, Epson also offers presentation paper and a museum-quality Pro Imaging style. The printer's interfaces are USB 3.0, 100BaseT Ethernet, 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, AirPrint, and Google Cloud Print. There is no SD card or USB thumb drive support, though Epson offers what it calls a Professional iPhone/iPad Application that touts PC-level color management and many other finishing features available in the full Windows and macOS versions of Epson Print Layout. Epson says the app comes with complete color management, including automatic selection of color profiles and support for all of Epson's premium papers. I’d say that the print output screen is the wrong place to be making editing adjustments to your image, but at least adjustments are reflected on my monitor – a form of soft proofing.

For matte art papers you only have two higher quality settings – I’d once again avoid the highest (slower) setting. Higher quality print settings on the P700 do give a slightly enlarged gamut, but as I’ve noticed earlier, unlikely to be obvious in most prints. The touch screen The prints above are from when I produced an A3+ profiling target (~3k patches) for Epson TPP paper at each of the 5 print quality options. Unfortunately, it can also claim to be the first A3+ printer that goes close to needing a new set of inks immediately after the initialization process. Potential buyers should be advised that they will be obliged to buy a set of inks with the printer acquisition. My take away point would be to ignore marketing features and specs and don’t assume that just because you set all quality sliders to maximum, your prints will look ‘better’.The Pro-1000 is the largest printer reviewed here, capable of producing prints 17 inches wide, making it fantastic for making prints for walls or for any other large format use. Easy to use— features 4.3" customizable touchscreen, wireless connectivity and interior LED light for fast, convenient operation With large format photo printers, you generally expect a very large, heavy printer, but the P700 is remarkably small and light for its capabilities, coming in at 30% smaller than the previous model, the P600. Still, you will need a large desk space to fully accommodate the P700. Now, I’m putting all of my research and experience into this article, to make it easy for you to find the best photo printer for photographers, so your pictures look as good on the wall as they do on your monitor.
