Developed by Id Software, the original Doom video game was released in 1993. A pioneer of the FPS genre, the game puts players in the shoes of an anonymous space marine — called the Doomguy by fans — working under the supervision of the Union Aerospace Corporation (UAC) as he attempts to stave off an apocalypse-level event. While navigating several 3D levels on Mars and its orbiting moons, the marine is faced with an army composed of demons and the undead, all of which have spawned from the depths of Hell.
