Entertainment | Emmy success for Vicar of Dibley". BBC News. 24 November 1998 . Retrieved 27 April 2011. Frank is very "English" and very "public school" in appearance: highly eccentric in both manner and dress, and outstandingly well-spoken. However, whilst he speaks exceptionally well linguistically, most of the Dibley inhabitants wish he would speak a little - no - a lot less, for he's intensely verbose and pedantic, and has been known to bore people to sleep and even to suicide when he speaks! She would like her close friend Jennifer Saunders would read her eulogy (Image: Getty Images Europe)In Kathy Burke’s podcast, Where There’s a Will, There’s a Wake, Dawn said she wanted to be laid to rest with ‘the full vestments’ inside a gold casket with a Perspex lid so mourners could see her. Sarah, Duchess of York, Richard Ayoade, Orla Brady, Fiona Bruce, Annette Crosbie, Johnny Depp, Ruth Jones, Hilary Kay, Damian Lewis, Maureen Lipman, Jennifer Saunders, Sting and his wife Trudie Styler, Stephen Tompkinson, Dervla Kirwan, and Emma Watson have made guest appearances in short charity specials.

In his second and last appearance, Tristan paid a surprise visit to Geraldine on Christmas Day, asking her to marry him. She assumed he was proposing, and joyfully accepted. However, this turned out to be a misunderstanding, as he then introduced her to Aoife ( Orla Brady), his fiancee, and Geraldine was devastated to discover he was asking her to perform his and Aoife's wedding ceremony, not be his bride. Last year Dawn said she had also given her own funeral some serious thought, and had decided she wanted to be buried in her iconic Vicar of Dibley costume. After the closing credits, Geraldine usually tells Alice a joke, to which Alice either overreacts, tries to interpret literally, or understands only after Geraldine explains it. There are a few exceptions to this in various episodes.

The Vicar of Dibley was created by Richard Curtis and written for its lead actress, Dawn French, It aired from 1994 to 2007. It is set in a fictional small Oxfordshire village called Dibley, which is assigned a female vicar following the 1992 changes in the Church of England that permitted the ordination of women.

On 15 March 2013, French reprised her role as Geraldine Granger as part of her French and Saunders marathon on BBC Radio 2. She was interviewed by Chris Evans on his Pause for Thought section. The following year, on 29 March 2014, French appeared in character as Granger on Thought for the Day on BBC Radio 4.Despite admitting attraction to many a woman, we discover he's a closet homosexual - he dropped the occasional hint towards his leanings in several episodes before coming out in style on Radio Dibley. If only he wasn't so dull that no one had tuned in to his programme!
