About this deal

Front and rear gearboxes include 4-bevel differentials for smooth operation, and are sealed to ensure that dust can't get inside. Four different gear ratios can be applied with the use of three separately-sold types of pinion gears, Next up I chose to build mine with a number of initial hopups / upgrades, after all I have the kids one to serve as a base reference. HPI Firebolt 15 turn brushed motor – Pretty cheap, seemed like a good step up from the Torque / Sport tuned Tamiya motors which I think are somewhere between 23 & 27 turns Dislikes: Bottoms out on landing after almost every single jump, turning circle is large, tapping screws get loose easily (buy 20 3x10mm titanium screws 53530 if you plan to pull it apart regularly)

while left and right suspension arms and uprights are identical to facilitate hassle-free assembly. The Neo Scorcher is one of the first models released by Tamiya on their new TT-02B chassis, a buggy variant of their TT-02 entry-level touring car chassis. While the off-road chassis is still very fresh as this review is being written, I have had enough good fortune to experience building it. Personally I would recommend a 4WD buggy to anyone just getting started – easier to control than a rear wheel drive.

Note the supplied 17T pinion is steel I think whereas the 19T on there now is alloy. Does anyone know where you can get metal pinions that match Tamiya pitch?

Schumacher mini pins (soft, really for racing rather than ''bashing'' ), Schumacher Venoms are hard wearing 'carpet' tyres but look similar to the Traxxas Anacondas so could be good for hard ground too. dBoots have a good range of tyres too, in various compunds. However the Eagle front one way was the first thing to go on the hopped up version, or more correctly the bevel gear which stripped teeth (using a 15T brushed motor). Note that this was the bevel gear supplied with the Eagle one way, not the kit-supplied bevel gear. The TT-02B is based on the TT-02 entry level multi-purpose platform designed to be easy to assemble for first time R/C kit builders. As I said I’m reasonably new so a simple kit was ideal – No meshing of gears or slipper clutches to deal withOriginally I thought it came out too dark, but it’s actually grown on me and looks fab in bright sun. I still want to try a more complex ‘racing’ paint scheme in the future however, I feel I missed an opportunity. I have heard of others have experienced this problem and I note that the underside looks like it has spots for nuts so perhaps something to try there… While the main tub chassis and 4WD shaft drive-train are the same as the TT-02, the suspension is new to accommodate off-road rugged running. I also recently hit a fence and broke one of the low-friction steering post screws, leaving the bottom half embedded in the tub which will likely mean a new tub - cheap enough but time-consuming having to transfer everything over.
