About this deal

The QN95C’s predecessor also used Mini LED technology, though. So more interesting to anyone looking for an improvement for the 2023 model will be the fact that the 65-inch model enjoys 1344 zones of local light dimming versus its predecessor’s 720. That’s an increase of nearly 90 per cent in a single generation. And given how generally impressive Samsung has tended to be with its management of much lower dimming zone counts, hopes have to be very high indeed for a 1344-zone model. There are some interesting sound options to choose from. Alongside Samsung’s usual Standard and Amplify settings (Standard is the better here) is Samsung’s Intelligent Mode. Within that menu is Adaptive Sound+, which analyses your space in real time to provide a better audio delivery. For our money, it’s worth using but that might depend on the acoustics of your room. In our AV facility it adds a touch more spread of sound and a shade more dynamism. Those who are wall-mounting (or who simply want to move cable-clutter as far away from the display as possible) can still place the new unit on a separate shelf or in a cupboard, and its new shape and size should make it far easier to find a home for. Quantum Matrix Technology uses Quantum Mini LEDs - lights that are approximately 1/40th of the size of conventional LEDs. They are precisely controlled to create intense detail and contrast. Quantum Matrix Technology Pro has 1.5x more lighting zones than Quantum Matrix Technology, for even greater detail.

The Tizen smart platform itself has changed very little, but that's no bad thing – it was already the best in the business in terms of its app offering and usability. It’s obvious pretty much instantly that nearly doubling the QN95C’s dimming zone count has had a profoundly positive effect on its picture quality. While the QN95C is really literally made for HDR, it actually does a brilliant job with standard dynamic range sources too. The Standard mode presents SDR with almost HDR levels of brightness and punch without typically making the picture look strained or unnatural, while the Movie and Filmmaker Modes deliver SDR out of the box in its much dimmer, much more authentic state if that’s your preference. The percentage of the approximate area, taken by the active part of the screen, to the total front area.

The new consumer MicroLED TV will be available in four sizes: 76 inches, 88 inches, 99 inches and a huge 110 inches. Each model comes pre-assembled as a complete flatscreen TV, unlike commercial MicroLEDs, which come as smaller modules that can be assembled in various configurations. The pixel pitch shows the distance from the centers of two neighboring pixels. In displays, which have a native resolution (the TFT ones, for example), the pixel pitch depends on the resolution and the size of the screen. The only catch with the 50QN90A’s upscaling is that it can start to look too fizzy with very grainy sources. This slight harshness can be softened away by the noise reduction options, but this inevitably leads to softer, occasionally slightly processed-looking results. To reiterate this point, though, the fizzing problem only happens with unusually grainy sources. With relatively pristine HD images the 50QN90A’s upscaling is outstanding.

But while the Samsung loses a couple of battles to all OLEDs, it also does some things that no OLED can do. That punch and vibrancy makes the presentation endlessly exciting and engaging. Play the scene in which K meets Ana Stelline for the first time and the forest memory she’s creating is lush and verdant to a degree that only a QLED can manage. Now we’re on the subject of gaming, all four of the QN95C’s HDMIs support the latest gaming features of 4K/120Hz, VRR (including AMD Freesync Premium Pro), and ALLM. Fortunately, if a game exhibits grey-looking dark scenes, nudging the Shadow detail adjustment to -2 or -3 can help. As for the blooming in FreeSync mode, which seems to be exacerbated by the warm colour tone and strict luminance controls that the Premium Pro system demands, it can be greatly improved by choosing a cooler colour temperature, setting the Contrast Enhancer feature to High, and switching the local dimming to Standard (rather than high) or, even better, Low – if you can live with the brightness reduction it causes. Samsung QE65QN95A sound quality – No slouching here

When we say ‘advanced local dimming zone solution’, we mean it. Remarkably, the QE50QN90A can simultaneously deliver different levels of light from no less than 448 separate LED zones. To give this more context, Sony’s 50-inch XBR-50X90J LCD TV uses just 24 local dimming zones.

Information about whether there is a possibility for wall mounting according to the VESA Mounting Interface Standard (MIS). After only achieving a relatively mild improvement over their predecessors with its 2022 Mini LED TVs, Samsung has moved things on much more convincingly with the QN95C. Nearly doubling the number of dimming zones has elevated almost every aspect of picture quality, aided and abetted by an also much-improved video processing system. The spectacular new pictures are partnered, too, by far more immersive and impactful new sound. The storage temperature shows the range from a minimum to a maximum temperature, within which storing of the display is considered to be safe. The QE65QN95A’s support for FreeSync, the HDMI 2.1 VRR system and (uncertified) NVidia G-Sync, also means that there’s no screen tearing or excessive judder during fast motion or pans. While you need to tweak a couple of things to get the best out of it, a well set up 50QN90A proves that Samsung’s Mini LED-driven Neo QLED technology is capable of elevating the brand’s TVs to new OLED-challenging performance heights even at a relatively mainstream size. Approximate diagonal size of the display. If the manufacturer does not provide such information, the diagonal is calculated from the width and height of the screen. I’m less convinced about its ‘Picture Clarity’ motion processing. Samsung doesn’t offer a wealth of options: simply Auto, Custom and Off. Auto is the least distinguished since it induces judder and a slight shimmer and frayed edges, which can distract with sports. Particularly pleasing is how much bigger its audio ‘landscape’ sounds. Film mixes are cast much further to the left, right and even above the screen than they have been with other recent Samsung TVs – and there’s enough power behind the sound projection to ensure that the resulting soundstage doesn’t sound brittle or incoherent. With 4K HDR content, the Samsung QN94A moves into overdrive. Highlights are incredibly bright but don’t sacrifice detail. The QN94A delivers some of the punchiest, vibrant and colourful 4K HDR images I’ve seen.
