Tap water (normal household potable water) is perfectly OK as long as it is free of odors that might alter the taste of the beverage. Bottled water is also OK. Milk froth temperature depends on the quantity and temperature of the milk used. As there is no temperature sensor we recommend to use a minimum of 80ml of milk. The more milk you use, the colder the in cup result will be. Why is this machine called Nespresso Atelier? Not that you can’t use your own mugs. You just need to ensure that they’re the right size: the opening has to be 7cm wide, you need to be able to fit in a minimum of 80ml of milk, and this amount shouldn’t exceed the halfway point of your mug. Using your own glasses and cups may require some experimentation to get right at first; it didn’t take me too long to work out how best to use my own cups with milk.We recommend regular cleaning and descaling of your machine regardless of which capsules you use. Can I put parts of my machine in the dishwasher? Simultaneously press the Lungo and Mocha keys for 3 seconds to activate the Factory Settings Menu. The Lungo and Mocha keys blink 3 times. Paper capsules do not interact with the machine in the same way as aluminum capsules. It takes slightly longer for the machine to pierce the paper capsule, and sometimes a very small amount of water may flow around the capsule and into the cup. A few water drops should not affect the taste or aroma of your coffee. What should I do if my appliance is not working?

Take out and reposition the tank every 3 seconds. There should be air bubbles escaping from the tank valve. If you’re a fan of the way the Nespresso Aeroccino froths milk, but you’d rather the job could be done automatically and clean up was easier, then the Nespresso Atelier could well be for you. This original Nespresso pod coffee machine steams and whisks milk directly in the mug, adding coffee thereafter. Next, the shot of espresso is added into the milk. It takes a little while for the drink to settle, and the foam on top is slightly tinged by the espresso, but the overall effect is pleasing. The main benefit of Nespresso machines is the wide range of pods available, both in traditional espresso volumes and the Lungo longer-drink variety. It’s the quality of the brew that counts and a Nespresso machine is capable of producing a quality shot of espresso, one that can rival what you you’d get with actual coffee beans and a manual machine. If your appliance has not been used for several months, the pump may have difficulty restarting the water flow.

Other than descaling the machine when the light comes on (you set water hardness using the provided testing strip in the box to adjust how often this is), there really isn’t much more that you have to do to maintain this coffee machine. The Nespresso pods are free to recycle, every part of the pod is reused so it’s environmentally friendly. The milk frother is hidden in a section behind the water tank. When you are ready to use it, simply pull it out and attach it to the spout. Although coffee grounds in your cup are harmless, this does not give the best coffee experience and we do not recommend drinking the cup of coffee. We recommend placing a container under the coffee outlet and press the Lungo button (no capsule) to rinse any coffee grounds from the inside of the brewing unit, then brew a new cup of coffee with a new capsule. DELIVERY METHOD

We recommend using the paper capsules within 4 weeks after opening the sachet, keeping them in their sachet by closing it with a clip and storing the sachet in a dry, cool place, sheltered from light. The main competition is from the Sage Nespresso Creatista Uno, which automatically froths milk into a jug for free pouring. The advantage of the Creatista Uno is that it’s easier to use with your own mugs, but it does require a bit of skill to get things right, plus it can’t work with cold milk.
