About this deal

We know interdental cleaning is important, but what are the pros and cons of interdental brushes specifically? Pros Brands making wood handled interdental brushes include (not all options available in all countries):

If there is only a small amount of bleeding, improved cleaning is the most important thing to get rid of it. Continue to brush for a few days and the bleeding should reduce. You should use your interdental brush to clean between teeth in this way once a day, while still brushing in the normal way twice a day. See our teeth-brushing guide for more on how to brush your teeth properly.

How to Use Your Interdental Brush

Interdental brushes are designed for cleaning in between the teeth. Although brushing your teeth with a normal toothbrush does help to keep them clean, it’s not the most effective tool for getting rid of all of the plaque from the space between your teeth. Some people use floss for this task, but dental brushes for between teeth offer another option that can be helpful for more people. Interdental brushes are designed to get in between the teeth, with small bristles and a slimline shape. Unlike a standard toothbrush, they often don’t have a long handle, which gives you plenty of control. Read more about flossing in our guide about how to floss and the best products to use. Can interdental brushes damage gums? Using renewable alternatives to plastic – e.g. bio-based plastic for the handles of their interdental brushes. That is where the ICON brushes step up — they are much stronger, last longer, and are cheaper to buy too. Sadly they aren’t easy to find outside of the UK, and also don’t have any clear environmentally friendly policies. Interdental cleaning is also known to prevent tooth loss. Studies show that people who use interdental cleaning aids have more natural teeth than those who rely on brushing alone.

Prices are slightly higher than most plastic brushes, as is often the case with environmentally-friendly alternatives, but they are not prohibitively expensive. Bend the wire at an angle (use a brush with a flexible head to reduce the likelihood of the wire breaking) Interdental brushes are the gold standard for cleaning between the teeth, with lots of evidence to show that they are the most effective option for plaque removal. A completely different option would be to invest in a water flosser, an electronic device that shoots a high-powered jet of water to clean between the teeth (think of it as an electric interdental brush). Are they as effective as manual interdental brushing or flossing? Perhaps not quite, but the big brands like cariPRO and Oral-B are improving their technology all the time. An added bonus is that they are very easy to use, so you're more likely to keep up daily use.Different sized brushes needed for different sized gaps in the teeth – Not a one size fits all approach.
